Ibanez retires over health issues

Wasps and former France skipper Raphael Ibanez has announced his retirement from club rugby with immediate effect after taking medical advice.

The 36-year-old veteran decided to hang up his boots after consulting with club doctors following a series of complex concussions this season.

Ibanez, who joined Wasps in 2005, has won silverware in every competition since moving to Adams Park.

He was made club captain at the start of the 2008/09 season.

A great, great player!

Should go down in history as one of the greatest hookers of all time!

He really is a legend.

On a positive note: things just keep getting worse for Wasps. :D

Sad for Ibanez - one of the few likable players they've got - but in other news, specifically at the aging and irritationg pests... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Ah, it's funny.

I wonder if we'll magically see a ringfenced Premiership before they get relegated next season?

Always sad when a player retires through injury. At 36 though he probably wouldn't have been far off retiring anyway.
I wish the guy all the best in his future life.

Sad to hear this, but I can see the logic obviously...concussions are bad craic....especially to an "older gentleman".
