Lions Squad: 2009

Yeah - Quinlan looks to have taken his place after getting the better of him in the HC recently.

Right then, lets get the ball rolling.

Surprised but happy to see Earls, Quinlan, Halfpenny and Monye

Surprised and not so delighted to see Powell, Shaw and Vickery

Happy not to see R Jones (on form only!), Henson, Blair, Hayes, Cipriani, Horan and Hook

Dissapointed that Armitage (instead of Halfpenny), Leamy (though I'd prefer Quinlan, Powell and Ferris) or Cussiter (for Ellis) didnt make it, I thought they would be good options

Surprised that he is only bringing two outhalves. Is flutey an option at 10?

Overall I'm happy with the squad.

Was anyone listening to Hickie last night on Newstalk? He was saying that Armitage rates himself very highly and that Geech would avoid bringing guys that would switch off if they didn't make the first XV.

8 Munster guys!

Hopefully Halfpenny and Earls don't spend all that 30k each on some fancy stereo!

Some disappointment for Armitage, Cueto, Darcy, Many Outhalves, Croft can feel hard done-by, Ross Ford, Blair ann Ryan Jones

But Earls, Halfers, Quinlan, Monye will be delighted.

Still annoyed to see Worsley there.

I'd Catagorise the number of Second Rows asa a WTF issue along with the inclusion of Alan Quinlan. I doubt he'll get a test match but I'd love to see Earls challanging for a test place! And hopefully this is Kearney and Fitzgerald's chance to throw their shackles and let fly!

9 English and 8 Munster!!!!! Who'da thought?

Agree with Henson, Cipriani and Hook. The thing is with Ryan he's a very honest player who is lacking confidence for some reason. I think it must have boiled down to Andy Powell or Ryan Jones, both of whom arent exactly blistering at the moment?

Surprised with armatidge also, but Jamie Roberts can play fullback?

Fitzgerald prefers to play Fullback and a hattrick against the Dragons says that Earls can. And yeah, Roberts can too! Plenty of cover there!

Ahhh good. Because I don't rate Kearny at all. *hides to avoid missiles[/b]

Na, that's cool and the gang, he hasn't had the chance to cut loose this season so he's looked like a total Dempsey.

I'm pretty supprised by only 2 recognised Fly halfs,,

Surely the boks will target them for punishment ( More so ) knowing we have no specialised replacement

Initial thoughts for me:

Suprised and a little disapointed that only 2 Scots made it.

Suprised Rees made it and Best didnt; and that Powell made it and Jones and Leamy didn't.

Glad Cipriani, Hook, Henson and Wilko are all out, but a bit worried about Flutey presumably being the third choice 10.

Glad Worsley got picked on his cracking 6N form. Though Croft will feel a bit hard done by.

Happy that Earls, Quinlan, Halfpenny, Moyne, Oleary all made it

Suprised but not all that concerned that Shaw made it. Suprised and a little concerned that Ellis made it.

Suprised no Cueto, Darcy or Armitage.

Same here.

Quite shocked that Halfpenny made it, just hope that it doesn't go to his head.
(Unless he truly wants to be known as the Welsh Cipirani)

Halfpenny's not shown any signs of being a self loving idiot like Cips or henson. He's a down to earth guy with just the right amount of confidence in himself to play well. He's always been hugely modest when interviewed. He's there, because he deserves it, and he's a true star in the making, our replacement for Shane Williams just at the time we need one.

Are Vickery and Shaw to play the Jason Leonard role of inspirational bag handler?

Jesus so many questions, so little pattern to my thoughts.

Lets just be glad it's not Borthwick. Shaw is a good player and we're not exactly blessed with a pool of quality props. Though I still think Mike Ross was worth a try.

Anyone else notice that there's more Joneses tha Scots?

Note Halfpenny as a kicking option. Having only two fly halfs is a big risk though.

Thrilled for Monye and Earls are they are definitely up and coming at the moment. I think Croft will feel down at not boarding the plane as will Mike Blair but then again his form wasn't exactly red hot.

Classic Geechs though, talk about blasting through all the cynical talk of the plane being stuffed full of Wasps players.

EDIT: Oooh front row of Sheridan, Flannery and Murray anyone? BRIN AWWWN DA PAAAAAAIIIINN!
