June Internationals: Canada vs. Ireland (15/06/13)

It's getting borderline ridiculous, especially in the backline, right now our hospital ward:

Out of action: Cudmore(Fractured Hand),Kleeberger(Shoulder...has been out for ages), Van De Merwe(Surgery), Trainor(Broken Ankle), Mackenzie(Leg), Hassler(I beleive ankle I'd have to confirm though)

Doubtful to possible: Evans, Duke, Sinclair(Concussions), Carpenter(Back), Phil Mack(Ankle), Nick Blevins(not sure). Hamilton(neck)

Edit: I agree Psychic it's not so much this game I'm worried about(I think some of these guys will fight through it) but I think the team we send to Japan could be a bit of a joke, especially if we incur anymore injuries in the match on Saturday.

The IRB have apparently declined comment on the racism allegations of the Tongan coach.

Damn that's one long list, hopefully most of them will be ready by the weekend. Schultz has just come back as well.

Really hope more than anything else that the Canada game is a more entertaining and convincing performance than the USA from Ireland. Not only because id like to see some positives in our performance post Declan Kidney, but because its not great for promoting the game in North America through boring snooze-fests and penalty kicks. If I was a new comer watching the Ireland-USA game a few days ago id probably wouldn't be watching the sport again.

I thought the game was awesome, but I wasn't really supporting Ireland. Also, the crowd seemed to have loved the game, cracking good atmosphere.

Also watching some NFL while writing this. It baffles me how this sport is more popular than rugby in America, it's so slow. Packers just did a on side a kick, Vikings gathered went to knee and everyone just stopped and walked over to the centre. Then done a wee run play and then broke for an advert. I think, for the normal American sport watcher rugby must have seemed fast and furious, is a shame though that no tries were scored.

A way to market the game could be: Rugby - NFL played at NBA speed with NHL aggression.

Does anyone have any news articles on the effects of the game on the American public? Stats for ratings and the overall reception?

Come On Canada!!

Think now we just have to many injuries to win it, will be interesting to see what the line up for Canada will look like.

Attendance is shaping up to record proportions for this one, in excess of 20000 they're predicting. Welll done TO... I really hope a few players manage to get themselves healthy for this one so that we have a real spectacle. Not only is it being broadcast on TSN, TSN is putting it on their premier channel instead of TSN2 which not every cable subscriber gets. This is great news for Canadian rugby exposure.

I'm hoping the changes you highlighted are down to the illness in camp rather than going with the safe option.

Boss and Ross should not have started both these games and another hooker should probably start, Sherry is very unlucky. Any word on if those missing out are sick?

While I'm delighted for James Downey in winning his first cap, he's 32 years old. The progressive option would surely have been Paddy Jackson at 10 and Ian Madigan at 12. Pretty happy with Tommy O'Donnell ahead of Chris Henry. Henry may be in the same category as Shane Jennings; really good Heineken Cup player but just a step below test standard.

While I think progression would call for Paddy at 10 and Madigan at 12 I think both those guys should be focusing on homing they're games at 10 rather then have Madigan be shafted around a bit not that any experience at the top level is bad for either of them just I think they should be left in their preferred position.

I genuinely think Paddy Jackson would benefit from more games at 12 to help him develop his running game and give him more comfort at this level. A lot of 10s his age are playing 12 for just this reason after all.

Haven't commented in few weeks doing the tour as a fan so in Canada. Great to see Jimmy get first cap at 12. He was 1 of few not struck with virus and interesting thing will be how we go when energy begins to sap.

Snoop I think Madigan won't last long as he was really low. There had to be a balance in terms of this bug. I've heard Olding is in no state to play and also Mick Sherry is low. I'm surprised Jackson isn't starting as he had escaped bug

Thanks for the lineup's gents, it has been added to the start of the thread.

Canada are naming their lineup tommorow as they are waiting for clearance for the concussion concerns. Mack, Sinclair have been training for Canada so he looks to be a go and should be in the XXIII, Evans I know the coaching staff are quite concerned about, but it's mainly just staying symptom free for a few days. As of now I expect most of the seven players who took a knock in the Tonga game to be playing but some may have to start on the bench.

Edit: Canada have actually named their lineup tonight and it has been added to the top of the thread.

It's pretty much Canada's best possible squad considering the circumstances. Sinclair moves to Lock which is a shame but we need our best players on the field even if slightly out of position. Hirayama starting is probably the only choice I'm a little suprised about, hopefully he plays like he did in the first 60 minutes vs. Tonga and not the final 20.

Two of my favorite teams, but I'm backing Canada on this one. Hoping they can get a win. Great news about the broadcasting!

Considering all of our injuries, I can accept this line up, but I do think we will lose.

I think that this is the best selections possible. I agree LG that I would prefer Sinclair at 6 but I think that both Moonlight and Ardron have acquitted themselves quite nicely so far and deserve the spots they have. Sinclair is all class and having him on the field is what is important. How is it that we see to be able to generate so many good loose forwards but seem to struggle to produce the same in our front row and locking stocks.

I've said before and repeat again, I think Hirayama is being judged to harshly for the collapse at the end of the Tonga match. The intercept was all on him but after that I'm not sure you can pin to much more there. I think his leadership was evident and his success on the sevens circuit has given him a confidence at this level that he never had before. I thought everything he did he did with confidence and that was reflected in the 33-10 score line. What went wrong after that was a team problem not an individual one. That's what you want in 10, quick decisive decisions, whether its kicking, passing or running. I'll accept the odd error if made with the intent of getting on the front foot and moving forward.

I expect a much better showing from Ireland this week than last and while I'm cheering my fool head off that we win I'm also realistic about our prospects especially considering the trainers room looked like the triage area from one of those old MASH TV shows and we were already missing a few of our best.

Biggest surprise for me is Paris back starting on the wing.

i just hope that it is entertaining and that the scoreline is close.

True our subs didn't exactly play very well when they came on, but that intercept gave Tonga the lift they needed to get back into the match and also probably denied us a crucial 4 try bonus point.

Don't think we'll win, performance last week was poor and Canada are a good side. Also by the sounds of it this virus has really taken a lot out of the players.
