Im going to be truthful. I wasn't going to be a Ngatai fan.
After years of being spoilt by Ma'a Nonu I wanted a block busting, rampaging centre in the same build. In my mind Moala was going to be that guy after some of his steam train performances. I had previously watched Ngatai play for Taranaki and while he was solid he never really made me think wow at all. Then I got to the Auckland vs Taranaki game at eden park. In a game where the Ioane brothers were doing freak athletic things the stand out player on the park was Ngatai - he just ozzzed class and was much quicker than I thought.
Then the super rugby season this year started, bang, bang, bang, game after game Ngatai just got better and better and better shredding super rugby sides apart not on strength but on vision, class and an incredible skill set that I haven't witnessed in a backline player since Carlos Spencer. I mean he is a completely different player but his skill set is very very rare and HIGHLY of an All Black standard and quality.
Im convinced that international opposition will be much happy to be lining up against Crotty, Fekitoa and even SBW than against Ngatai. I think he have a considerable impact on the All Blacks decision making and creation on attack. He doesnt look like a superstar but he possibly has the best skill set and vision of any back in NZ rugby currently.
