Jimmy Cowan signs for Gloucester

Bonus: With him in the NH we're more likely to catch him getting ruined by some flanker with a short temper, than if it happened in a Super Rugby game.

Yes.

SOB even.

Strangely enough I reckon he could do well in the NH would suit his game.

not a very flattering image the BBC website has of him

Don't really see it?

Anyway, if he hits a bit of form, it could be a great signing. We really need the leadership on the field, could even be next year's captain (between him, Hamilton and Wood I reckon). Also, Lewis isn't good enough to be a starting 9 for a club wanting to go places, Rory Lawson is leaving, and I'm hoping Runciman will too. Which hopefully means Dan Robson will get a professional contract and soon be deputising.

Something about the West country and All Blacks whom shouldn't be All Blacks. Begs the question if he's the over-paid marquee signing or if someone better is on the horizon.

One thing you will get with Jimmy is a dedicated team man. Many people call him useless, yet he has had 51 All Black caps and 100 Super Rugby caps (all for the Highlanders). That means some pretty astute coaches rate him.

Its a measure of Jimmy Cowan's team loyalty that he will stay on in NZ after Super Rugby and play for his beloved Southland Stags before he heads off to England (Luke MacAlister, take note!!!) and is on track for his 100th match in the NPC for the Southland Stags. Only Tana Umaga (122, 100, 74) can match that record.

This is a very good signing for Gloucester. Cowan is a tough, uncompromising character. He's abrasive, ****ly and mouthy, and he pressures referees; all the attributes expected from a good halfback.

Fair play to him for that.

Stephen Donald is similar, in that as soon as he landed in the UK he got involved in coaching with local youth sides etc.
Regardless of whether or not he's any good, he'd barely come off of the pitch at Eden park and he was teaching u5s how to throw a ball in rainy Bath

I think he is a good experienced signing for them, on top of that Gloucester have made some big signing could be a team to watch next season.

I find it funny the same people slagging of Redpath for leaving forget that this signing was 'cos of Redpath

Looks like this forces Hansen's hand at picking the younger in-form guys in SUper Rugby rather than Jimmy or Piri.

Best news for someone like Kerr-barlow and Smith.

Excellent! :D Gloucester are pretty desperate for someone to shout at the team/ref. Is Cowan more of a physical or nippy scrumhalf? What's his distribution like?

Good chance of breaking the top 4, but I don't think we've assembled a team that can win it. Morgan provides us with a much needed ball carrier in the forwards, now I just hope we've got the athleticism to release the ball fast enough to the backline. I think a lot rests on how Kalamafoni steps up, but it would be amazing if we could get a decent lock in, and I'd feel a lot more confident. Some back-up props wouldn't go amiss too.

Lately? Poor. But it was once fairly good.
