15 Zane Kirchner (3)
14 JP Pietersen (32)
13 Jaque Fourie (53)
12 Wynand Olivier (26)
11 Bryan Habana (56)
10 Morne Steyn (11)
9 Fourie du Preez (54)
8 Danie Rossouw (45)
7 Schalk Burger (54)
6 Heinrich Brüssow (12)
5 Victor Matfield (91)
4 Bakkies Botha (65)
3 BJ Botha (18)
2 John Smit (92) - captain
1 Tendai Mtawarira (21)

Reserves:

16 Bismarck du Plessis (31)
17 CJ van der Linde (57)
18 Andries Bekker (2)
19 Jean Deysel (1)
20 Dewald Potgieter (uncapped)
21 Ruan Pienaar (36)
22 Jean de Villiers (54)[/b]

Surely Andries Bekker has more than 2 caps? Except for Kirschner that is a pretty solid line-up and with Steyn, Smith and Spies out and a couple of exciting guys coming through the ranks (even though not all of them were selected to tour) things look pretty good going forwards. Having the world's current best hooker on the bench says something. Precisely what that is, I'm not too sure, but it certainly says something.

Pity that especially Pretorius, Nel and Mapoe didn't tour IMO. We need to find a back-up for Steyn at 10 and I'm not sure it is Pienaar, what with him playing second fiddle to Hernandez at the Sharks and all and no clear prospect at the moment.. well, SA has always struggled to find world quality at 10, I guess.

Somewhere in the religion thread.

So as a Completely non-biased Paddy this is how I reckon the teams square up...[/b]

I'd have it more like this: (Compared Brussow to Wallace however, both opensides no matter that number are different.)

1. Beast - Healy - SA
2. Smit - Flannery - SA
3. BJ Botha - Hayes - SA
4. Bakkies - O'Callaghan - SA
5. Matfield - O'Connell - SA
6. Burger - Ferris - SA
7. Brussow - Wallace - SA
8. Rossouw - Heaslip - Ire

9. du Preez - O'Leary - SA

10. Steyn - Sexton - SA (although Sexton has the potential to be better) (fair enough)
11. Habana - Earls - SA
12. Olivier - Wallace - SA
13. Fourie - O'Driscoll - Ire
14. Pietersen - Bowe - Ire
15. Kirchner - Kearney - Ire

16. Bismark - Cronin - SA
17. CJ vd Linde - Buckley - SA (not the biggest fan of CJ but don't know Buckley and if the name is anything to go on..)
18. Bekker - Cullen - SA
19. Deysel - Leamy - SA20. Potgieter - Stringer - (LOL)
21. Pienaar - O'Gara - SA
22. de Villiers - D'Arcy - SA

From that, it looks clear cut that SA are a better team, especially the bench. However, rugby isn't down to individuals. If Ireland can survive up front in the scrums and linout, and stop Brussow from stealing all their ball they have a good chance. That's alot of big if's though.. I think Ireland have the class in the backs, and they use them in a better way than SA, so if they get ball, they could win.

SA go in as favourites. I personally expect a 7-12 point win to SA. As the age old saying goes, forwards decide who win, backs by how much. Irelands forwards just aren't quite up to it yet.
[/b][/quote]

Useless as these excersises are, now we can do it with the actual line-ups.

Ireland have the rub of it out wide and at n8 so if SA can keep it tight and dominate up front while not making silly mistakes it should be game. Kick for touch, boys!

Seriously what's with the Burger, Brussow mix up? Brussow 's an openside fetcher isn't he?

Its a South African thing.

Their opensides play 6, their blindsides play 7.

It makes them feel special.

Yes I get a warm fuzzy feeling whenever I see a SA squad announced. Jealous?

Does it really matter if Burger plays at 7 or 6 or if Brussow plays at 7 or 6?

They both are flankers, sometimes they move to the 8th man position when they scrum, so just call them "back-row forwards", built a bridge, and get over it! :bulb:

Can't we just all get along with each other?

The Saffers will need consoling after their third defeat on the trot to Ireland, and I for one believe the Irish can deliver that consolation in the form of pints and mockery and "would you ever get over yourselves and have a bit of craic, you miserable gits".

Let's not fight over the inevitable.

Sorry, probably should have explained it instead of posting that facepalm pic. But in my defense, it's the first opportunity I've had to use it, and since Pres and Speedy plaster it everywhere, I was feeling left out. Also the sentance below FACEPALM is more harsh than I realised. It wasn't that stupid a question. it has however come up a number of times in the past, possibly before your time though, not sure!

I think this is why we shoot people from Europe, which reminds me I have something to bury and a bloody shovel to clean...

What were we talking about again?

I apologise in advance for this:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/oSLMKUXZ3hk&hl=en_GB&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/oSLMKUXZ3hk&hl=en_GB&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

None of it is true. And I can't understand why people would laugh at this kind of stuff.

Discuss.

[Ireland by 60 on saturday.

[Your an idiot - by 60????????? you're smoking something special or drinking too much warm beer!!!

Springboks will win this one. Reasons why ireland will lose:

1. Too cocky
2. Too over confident
3. Holding grudges is not a good reason
4. Too arrogant
5. So jelous of SA it makes them nasty

And a message to all "errish" fans: Same way you're enjoying your one piece of hardware from the 6 Nations trophy moment, so we are enjoying our **** load of silverware for our many achievemants: World Championship Status, Tri-nations champions (3rd time), Super 14 Champions, 7's Rugby Champions........ oh how sweet the moment feels. AND even if we lose against "errland" we will STILL be the WORLD CHAMPIONS, and the SUPER 14 CHAMPIONS and the TRI NATIONS CHAMPIONS - You see errish fans you actually need the important matches to count - this match to us, in any event is not the WC final or the TriNations Finals - it's a game against a bunch of err, err, oh errish!! who need to prove themselves, to themselves - you dont need to prove anything to us!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

This discussion has hit a new low. Anyway i'm happy with the team picked. I was 1 off in my predicted starting XV with Jacobs out injured and Olivier coming. If we don't win this there is no excuse really.

Hmm, a new pride it not being either Irish or South African has just come over me :p Jokes.

On a better point, that video of "everyone hates South Africans" really annoys me, not so much because of the distasteful message, but more the fact that the chorus stops rhyming half way...

I don't mind who wins too much, but I think it would be nice for South Africa to get the win. Losing too many matches on the trot would put a bad taste in what has been a great year for South Africa. Should be a good game though, and either way, remember your all winners as long as you tried your hardest.

It definitely has hit a new low .... very sad really.

Anyway, that is a very good lineup, not really sure about BJ Botha at TH.

Boks by 10.
