Ireland v New Zealand - 8 November 2024

Have NZ got a try? They have just done what we did to them last week, had better discipline and kept the scoreboard ticking.

No amazing attacks by NZ, no great individual brilliances like first 2 tries(great tries) last week.

Ireland looked average today tbh, was looking at that Ireland team pregame thinking how strong it looked but didn't really live up.
Yeah Will Jordan scored.

Could be a very sucessful tour this for the Kiwi's. France will be a step up, and at least whoever schedules their fixtures has a warm up against a tier 2.

Commiserations Celtic cousins. Better team won tonight. NZ weren't outstanding. Ireland dropped off massively after scoring jsut after HT.
Were NZ outstanding? They played well and deserved the win, were a little better than last week but Ireland are what No2 in the world and where most of the team play together week in week out?

Agree better team won tonight. But not outstanding by either team.

The t after the apostrophe means 'were not' 🤣

It's not perfect but I feel like Razor is starting to put his imprint on the ABs - they are better defensively then earlier in the season and the bench is finally delivering some impact. Ireland were poor and bar the second test in SA, I think their performances have been on a downward trajectory since France in the first game of the 6N.

France will beat NZ next week btw.

You know what, I hate cheering against uk/Ire teams for the rest of the world but I'm not a fan of this Ireland team and I don't know why.

Even though they'd never do it for us I'd always cheer Wales/Scots over the rest of the world pretty much. And Ireland but not this iteration.

I always cheer for anyone against the All Blacks.

They've got something to build on IMO. Their scrum is solid enough and up there with the best in the world and enough of a weapon to use against anyone but maybe SA and France.

There's been more of a drop off in quality post world cup with what's coming through than I can remember but still some quality players in there.

Medium to longer term their top tier domestic comp missing the SA sides is lacking in proper competition IMO and can't see that benefiting the national side. I've heard it said that participation numbers are down too

No need for Ire to panic.

However….

You can have all the structure you want but any team needs a smattering of stardust and there's a big drop off from Sexton and Furlong to their replacements. Sheehan too takes some replacing.

And no-one can beat Father Time.

In fairness Kelleher had surgery two weeks ago or some ridiculously recent time ago.

Crowley is usually better than today but hoping Prendergast steps up soon.

Furlong hasn't been his best for a while but yeah tightheads like him are a rare breed.

Think this nz team is a bit underrated to be honest, they are not vintage all dominating NZ of old, the way I see it SA are like NZ use to be then you have France, Ireland ABs all fairly evenly matched, with England and Scotland best of the wrest.

Happy to be wrong with this one.

Ireland were incredibly poor with ball in hand and they kicked a lot more than expected too.

Great performance from Dmac.

Must say this was a worry.
New Zealand fully deserved win. Yes Ireland may have been rusty but as has been said most play with Leinster so this should not be an excuse.
New Zealand had most of territory and had a large amount of the ball. We seemed to be bossed at home.
Taking Crowley off was awful call. He was doing well and Frawley had a nightmare of all nightmares.
Henderson contributed massively to the downfall too and we have a big question now for lock. Ryan was poor and conceded a few silly pens. McCarthy was very good. And not saying POM, Murray or Healy should have been brought on early but more if we don't intend on using bench then we are playing effectively with a 19/20 man plan in an era when you need 23.
I hope I am wrong but got the feeling tonight that a tide may be turning. Our backrow did well and I felt for Kelleher. Limeoit stats will look poor but there was no gap. But again fair play to All Blacks. They were good and deserved winners

It only takes one game for you to notice it but when you do it hits you like a tonne of bricks. Ireland are an old team.

There's no recrimination in this because the lads who I have in mind owe us nothing but there are half a dozen players i wouldn't pick again.

Congrats to the Kiwis. Felt embarrassed for us at the start when they played half the national anthem.
