Ireland v Italy

Planeyrugby, which probably means it's bullshit, but it is believable. If Ferris is out, while it wouldn't be very Kidney like, McLaughlin is a specialist 6 and would be a valuable addition to our lineout.

Mallet names squad for Irish clash

Italy head coach Nick Mallett has named his 24-man squad ahead of the RBS 6 Nations opener against Ireland at Croke Park on Saturday.

Bayonne fly-half Craig Gower has been included in the squad but is doubtful for this weekend's match as he is struggling with a knock to his left knee.

That means uncapped Rovigo stand-off Riccardo Bocchino could make his Azzurri debut in Dublin.

Antonio Pavanello, Simone Favaro, Manoa Vosawai, Andrea Marcato, Matteo Pratichetti and Michele Sepe have joined Italy's A team for Sunday's match against England Saxons in Treviso.

Italy squad for meeting with Ireland in Croke Park on Saturday, 6 February at 2.30pm.

Forwards: M Aguero (Saracens), Ma Bergamasco (Stade Francais), M Bortolami (Gloucester), M Castrogiovanni (Leicester), C Antonio Del Fava (Viadana), L Ghiraldini (Benetton Treviso), L Cittadini (Treviso), Q Geldenhuys (Viadana), S Perugini (Bayonne), J Sole (Viadana), A Zanni (Benetton Treviso), F Ongaro (Saracens).

Backs: R Bocchino (Rovigo), Mi Bergamasco (Stade Francais), G Canale (Clermont), A Masi (Racing Metro Paris), L McLean (Benetton Treviso), G Garcia (Treviso), C Gower (Bayonne), K Robertson (Viadana), A Sgarbi (Treviso), T Tebaldi (Gran Parma), S Picone (Treviso), P Derbyshire (Petrarca Padova).

when's the team to be announced?[/b]
Next hour or so ....

As for Trimble starting I don't think he the best option + I think any player who earned jersey (ie Earls, Sexton & Healy) should all be kept as they are all playing well and showed vs Springboks they are able for it.
Trimble has had chances im past and didn't live up to potential.

McLaughlin deserves to start at 6 if Ferris is out as he has turned into a beasty player since learning from Rocky.

Ireland: 15. Kearney (Leinster), 14. Bowe (Ospreys), 13. O'Driscoll © (Leinster), 12. D'Arcy (Leinster), 11. Trimble (Ulster), 10. O'Gara (Munster), 9. O'Leary (Munster), 1. Healy (Leinster), 2. Flannery (Munster), 3. Hayes (Munster), 4. O'Callaghan (Munster), 5. O'Connell (Munster), 6. McLaughlin (Leinster), 7. Wallace (Munster), 8. Heaslip (Leinster)

Replacements: 16. Best (Ulster), 17. Court (Ulster), 18. Cullen (Leinster), 19. O'Brien (Leinster), 20. Reddan (Leinster), 21. Wallace (Ulster), 22. Earls (Munster)

Sexton not available with a dead leg.

Meteoric rise for Kevin McLaughlin - 12 months ago he nearly lost his Leinster contract.

Well done to best and flanry for making the team supprise to see trimble but he has been playing well.

Cronin should be at least on the bench.

Happy with the team, indeed a meteoric rise for McLaughlin, fair play to him.

Really excited about the six nations :D

I presume that Cronin will be added to the A squad and start that game. I wouldn't write him out of playing a part in the 6 Nations yet given Best and Flannery's recent injury woes.

I'm happy that good form is being rewarded thus Trimble and McLaughlin play. McLaughlin better take his chance because he may not get too many more once Ferris and Leamy regain fitness.

Good to see a specialist 6 brought in as well!

We have a proper squad going now with numerous options in every positions, and still two years to the RWC. Kidney doing a fantastic job. I don't expect we will field an unchanged XV once this 6N, fantastic news IMO, a proper squad with proper competition for places, no XV with the divine right to start every game as we are all too used to.

Lads can't be upset with team just hope Trimble doesn't bottle it as I 100% sure he in just to give Ulster a representative. (Politics are involved in this decision)
I think Earls and Horgan are ahead of him.

Great to see ROG back although I still think Sexton is our 1st choice at moment.

Also as said Best and Flannery should be praised for been fit for 6Nations but just think maybe Cronin should be in the 22 as he fully fit and experience would stand to him.
Will this mean to when Sexton returns Wallace will loose a bench spot even???

John Hayes is a reliable prop but he's getting old and I think there are some players that have more phsical ability and stamina. I :bana: t's time to give some other players a chance. :bana:

McLaughlin and Trimble surprise. Not happy with TOL because he's been weak for Munster when scrum under pressure. Happy with Darse.

Only Kidney knows ...

shtove I agree TOL has been off form lately for Munster but Reddan is not good enough and well if we are honest TOL has little competition.

As for Hayes coonor the man is still a great and vital player for Ireland but as much as we'd like to rest him there is nobody capable of stepping it to his shoes.

I completely disagree. Horgan is 31, going on 32 so he was never a candidate. Earls is playing competently, but nothing more, in the centre. Trimble is playing on the wing and doing things like this:

<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_8qbtSnPUyg&hl=en_GB&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_8qbtSnPUyg&hl=en_GB&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

He deserves to start. Talk of picking him because he's from Ulster is ********. Why not pick Rory Best or Tom Court in that case? Trimble's picked because he's the best option in that position. At 25 he has plenty of top class rugby left in him too. I like Earls a lot as a player but he hasn't done enough this season to deserve his place. It's a shame because I thought he'd be a shoe in when Luke Fitzgerald was injured.

Don't see any politics in it. Trimble/Earls at 11 is a toss up. I reckon Earls and Bowe are skinny bamboozlers who should play at 13, like BOD before the weights-machine (or whatever) got him.

Horgan is a 14, and it's debatable whether he should be in, because Bowe doesn't do the cross kick trick with ROG and that's how we've scored some of our greatest tries.

Reddan not good enough? He was by far our best player in the world cup and won his fair share with Wasps. A very good scrumhalf. He was only dropped from the squad due to our tendancy to pick playersat home. He's deservedly back in the huny for the 9 spot along with O'Leary and Boss.

Starting Horgan over the form wing in the NH over the last 12 months would be madness, regardless of this silly crossfield kick idea you seem to have. It hasn't yielded all that many tries. Anyway, what's to say Bowe couldn't fetch one? He was a Monaghan Minor Footballer after all.
