Ireland v England, 10/02/13

We`re back after 10 long years!
Thanks to the Celts for holding the NH fort for that time, but one lucky semi-final appearance in the world cup in that time is not good enough!
Look out SH, the 'Whitemen' are back!!!:D

In all those high scoring and free flowing WC finals you mean? Oh, hold on....

Still scored more tries in that RWC than anyone else...

Good one...and by the way it is really only 5 SH wins out of 6 as the first RWC in 1987 does not really count as it was on a level of the annual ex International **** up in Bermuda with Blanco et al havng fags on the sidelines before and after the game!!

Guess playing for France in a rugby world tournament didn't mean much - typical of the current French attitude as well.

how bitter are you
I honestly think Ireland will win by 10+ so long as we can keep Mike Ross fit. Yes they won against the mighty All Blacks(who had depleted strength and power levels after novo swept through their ranks, but I agree England looked very good on the day) but I now they're coming to my house *****es. I can't remember an England team this hyped up coming to Ireland since, well, the last time they were in Dublin actually. How did that match go again?

Also, fun fact, the Irish pack was 3 kilos heavier than their English counterparts(yes I weighed them, yes I am that sad) so the idea of them coming to bully our pack is a bit misguided.

Tbh, with NZ - and most of the SH teams - it's not so much about style as it is cleverness. Not that they don't have great hands, technique and an enterprising spirit, but NZ are as happy as anyone to kick ball or stick it up the jumper if it makes sense and probably better than a great many at it, because they do it cleverly. They're very composed, as they play a lot of pressure games, and they understand the game better instinctively because they play more when younger.

We'll always struggle to match their cleverness - but this England team might be matching their composure. Despite my earlier scepticism I'm beginning to get rather impressed with Lancaster...

Just watched the Healey incidents. He may be a Lions starter but if he can't keep his head he will cost the team games. A cowards attack and one which could have wrecked Cole's leg and his career. Hope he get's a month ban at least.

Agree with all that! They play the game pragmatically and what is in front of them and if it was a day like today in Ireland the jumper would have been stuck it up!! On another day they might scor 4 tires against a decent team like Scotland at Twickenham!!

Thing about NH is that we may not have their skills but the potential for upsets is so much greater in the way we play, where the players play, the selection process and the levels of skills and would rather have that than know that, for instance, Ireland were going to go on a 70 match winning run!!

I do like contests and today there was a good old tussle with chance for both sides to take it........how often do you see a game like Wales v Ireland in the SH tri-nations or whatever it is called!

Great performance by our boys. World cup 2015 here we come no one can beat us.

What is it with the rest of the NH, always trying to superimpose the inherant weaknesses of their teams onto England?....the only NH nation to ever cut the mustard on the world stage with the SH giants is England.
England when they get their sh*t together can compete for and win world cups, the rest of the NH can`t...get over it!

I take it osuli lost a bet?

I'd comment on the game but it was sooooo boring I'm worried I may fall asleep just thinking about it

Ok, that was a tough one, for everyone involved. I think its only fair to acknowledge all round that on a different day certain things could have gone the other way, and it was a pretty even game. That said, it's only fair to credit England with a bit of agency in managing that game well.

Personally, I thought the Haskell binnin was very contentious. He can't know 'known' what he was doing, he was on his arse pulling himself backward. His legs didn't go out the way to get the ball, I just thought it was unlucky and maybe he should have been more carefull bearing in mind the ball was right next to him. However, it was a huge call and I'm very thankful it didn't cost us.

Nick, I'm with you in that it was a horrible game but I don't think we've ever bigged up the quality of the six nations...in the depths of darkest february....in Ireland... I know that conditions shouldnt' greatly impact basic skills and game intelligence, but it's only fair to recognise what it does to the way teams are trying to play. The moment the teams saw the rains coming down, the two sets of backs realised they wouldn't be seeing much ball. Even though it was a poor quality game, you can't underestimate how satisfyng it is to see two rivals like Ireland and England, or Wales and Ireland, smashing each other up :p. In line with that, its only fair to recognise the excellent gain-line defence exhibited today by both teams, but particularly by England. Really ferocious in contact. And whilst on the point of hemisphere comparisons, the All Blacks are more skillfulled, more talented, but they still struggled to be expansive or intelligent when England were hitting them on the gain-line. It would hae been even harder had it been raining that day.

People seem to feel Tom Youngs went poorly, and yes, he almost ruined everything when his lineouts went awry but I thought he was brilliant in contact, with some great low tackles.

Yoe, I don't follow at all... 'Is that all?' For both teams, the answers clearly no. Both showed last week what they have in the tank, they just need the right games to take it on. Don't you wish France had played a more 'smart' game yesterday? They might have still been in the hunt if they had.

gottaaaaaaa love it !! You know you're doing comedy a favor more than you are your country with those quips yeh ?

Henry:
man, France...sssssssssssssuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked on Saturday. To me, if winning the Grand Slam is about tight wins with nothing happening, suffocating defense no tries and kicking penalties then fk you rugby, I'm sticking to my NBA. Heck I think I'd rather watch some cheap comedy. It would have sucked wayyyyy less had we won, but I don't really care because the crisis is there. The problems are still there.
We're still a side that is playing catastrophically below the level we can and should play at.

But this game right here (IRE ENG) was just so fkn flat (despite the intensity), and following the FRA WAL snore-fest, I'm practically disgusted with Rugby right now. Man not a single try, Ireland looking like France and England sucking a bit less than Ireland, hence the extra penalties kicked in.

This weekend, all in all, France ssssssuuuucked the most probably (except on defense), no wait Italy then France, Scotland just took advantage of the freaking loserness of Italy and the boulevards opening before them, Wales was a tad bit better than France but soooo many mistakes too. Ireland looked like France as established, and England was just England: waiting for the hot-blooded Irish to commit a stupid foul and pretty boy Farrell shows off his new hair gel and kicks in the 3's.
