I need some crazy/ fun/ insane World Cup quick facts

I'll tell ya a real fact about Namibia in 1991 they beat a full Ireland test team 2-0 in a test series and they weren't even in the 1991 World Cup. I think Namibia missed qualification because they only just got independence from South Africa. Then we followed that up with losing to Gloucester in another warm up match the same year. Ah the 90's the memories! The decade from hell for Irish Rugby!

Ok I am the only Manxman to be present at three consecutive finals from 1999 in Cardiff through to 2007 in Paris..........Unless you can say different!!!!!

Namibia were the only team to go undefeated in the 2009 World Cup and Japan were the only team to go undefeated in the 2008 World Cup too.

You really are dense. RedruthRFC was referring to the All Whites, the NZ soccer/football team. Who recorded 3 draws in the group stage at the Football World Cup in South Africa. That's why he said "wrong shaped ball".

1-1 vs Slovakia
1-1 vs Italy (defending champions)
0-0 vs Paraguay

I feel like everything must be explained to you in black and white, Conrad Smith from Argentina who supports the Reds.

NZ are the most poisoned team the day before a final by a waitress called suzy in the Rugby World Cup

There's already one thread for this. I agree that it will never be resolved, so what it to be gained by certain people continually bringing it up?

Thinking about it, it has been resolved, TRF_nickdnz tells us that the ABs were food poisoned by South Africa, so maybe he can explain how he knows this and put the matter to bed once and for all!

As I alluded to in the most recent thread on this, surely the team doctor or other medics in attendance would have been able to at very least diagnose the cause of the problem. Goldie being sick proves nothing in itself - watch Living With The Lions - there's one player who can be heard doing the same before every match.

Well, I was clearly **** stirring...

Have to be pretty dense to miss that (sorry imscotty...).

As it is, members of the All Blacks South African security detour have stated that there was genuine food poisoning.

And in the quarter finals of the WC were a fag paper away from knocking the eventual champions out! Some of the names in that Irish side that day make it seem like so long ago. It must have been a roller coaster ride being an Irish fan in those days, I have painful memories of a slightly more recent team of Irish "no hopers" putting a confident England in their place with Eric Elwood doing most of the damage and the English not knowing what had hit them.

Australia will become the first team to have won it, to not make it out of a RWC Pool.

I wouldn't write the Aussies off either. They could beat Wales, England will have too much for them, but the Welsh will have to be cautious, Australia have the potential to open them up, especially if someone like Tomane or Folau is in the mood.

:D:D:D

You are very stupid and funny at the same time

That will probably happen and 4 millions kiwis will laugh and say i told you so, but on the off chance that Australia top the pool and go through to the final while NZ are eliminated in the semi, it will be awfully quiet across the ditch.

I have no issues with Australia doing well. I prefer them over any other top tier Rugby nation barring Scotland and sometimes Ireland.

I support both Aussie and South Africa over any NH team aside from Scotland.

absolutely mate, as much as I like a bit of banter, I'll support NZ and SA over any of the home nations, otherwiset I usually support the underdog for each match.

sounds fun ;)

South africa has never lost a game in the finals

Scotland achieved more in the world cup then Ireland.

Welsh lock Huw Richards was the first to get a red card, while playing against New Zealand in 1987

I don't think that is entirely correct, as there were no Yellow and Red cards in rugby at that time.

He could have been sent off, but I don't think he got a card for his indiscretion.

In 1995 South Africa vs Canada, James Dalton was also sent off and he missed the rest of the tournament, but he wasn't shown a card.

I don't think anyone is saying the NZ team didn't have food poisoning. I think the LOLs come in when the conspiracy theories start flying.

This is Africa. I eat in mostly and when I dine out 99% of the time it's at very highly respected establishments many of which have made the world 100 best lists on numerous occasions and if you so much as think of eating (and more importantly drinking!) elsewhere you run a very real risk of food poisoning. Hell, I've even had food poisoning from tke outs from world renowned franchizes on several occasions. I suspect touring teams will be eating out every single meal and will be visiting the 'disadvantaged' communities as well.

"I was a police officer, I worked with facts. What my eyes told me that night was that the team had deliberately been poisoned."

That sentence alone should be enough to discredit this clown looking to cash in.

This is very true.

Also I have worked during my student days in a bunch of upper-class hotels in Pretoria (the hotels where travelling sporting teams usually stay), and I got food poisoning in the staff canteen, and that from leftover food that was served that same morning.

Here's some more World Cup facts.

Jannie De Beer still holds the record for the most dropped goals in a RWC match. (5 vs. England in 1999)
Jason Leonard holds the record for the most appearances in matches (22)
New Zealand and Argentina have featured in the most opening matches in RWC (both featured in 3 opening games)

Jonah Lomu was 20 when he dominated the 1995 Rugby World Cup. In the movie Invictus, Lomu was portrayed by Zak Feau'nati who played in the '99 World Cup for Samoa. Lomu is younger than the actor who played a 20 year old version of himself in 2009.

There have been only three draws in World Cup history. 2 of those 3 were between Canada and Japan.
