Heineken Cup 2013/14 Pool 5, Round 5 (Ulster v Montpellier, Treviso v Tigers)

F**k. I just never thought of it before, I assumed it was just based on points.

On Barnes and the touch judge going to the TMO, I'd wager that had the same thing happened last season a try would have been awarded with no hesitation. Refs and touch judges are afraid to make decisions. I hope this TMO trial is reversed.

Is it just me or is Afoa just no where near as good as he was maybe 1 or 2 seasons ago? His scrummaging hasn't been as powerful and his ball carrying isn't really impressive..

Edit: Henderson needs on for Diack imo

EDIT 2: Just as I f**cking said that he goes and scores. Thank god.

Timing!

I too demand Henderson.

The TMO trial has no effect on this at all.
The old TMO laws meant that only in goal action could be referred upstairs. The new one has applied the laws to the whole field. Given the referee asked the TMO to check if Diack was onside when the kick was put in, there was an effect on that call.

No problem with Barnes checking here. Great covering tackle.

Checking the kick is the same as checking to see if a pass was forward it was allowed under the old rules too.
The only difference is that they can go back to previous phases now.

Maybe I'll feel different after some time and re-watching but we didn't deserve the bonus point there. Which now means win at Welford or no home quarter-final.

And, should that pass, based on that and everything else, that should result in Anscombe losing his job. I also think it will.

Before this season refs could only refer decisions to the TMO if they were in the act of scoring a try. The kick to Diack wasn't in the act of scoring a try since he caught it 15 metres out and had a defender to beat. It was different in the Currie Cup and Premiership where these laws were trialled previously.

Ulster were poor tonight.

I can't believe we've went from top team with 18 points after 4 rounds, to now most likely looking at 7th place. We're going to get hammered next week if our set piece and decision making doesn't vastly improve.

Just on the game as a whole I thought Montpellier were offside on so many occasions and I'm very surprised Barnes didn't pick up on it in the second half.

Just hoping Treviso can limit the Tigers to 4 points tomorrow..

What has Anscombe done wrong and who could do better? I see a coach who's backed young players to step up, who has seen his team top the Pro 12 and taken them to a Pro 12 final and has them on the verge of a second Heineken Cup quarter final in succession. Unless David Humphreys has someone better lined up, I think getting rid of Anscombe would be a knee jerk reaction.
