Haka? - what is it? I from Russia and i dont know?

Haka is a Maori tribal war dance. The most well known Haka 'Ka Mate' was performed by Te Rauparaha war leader of Ngati Toa tribe. He was hiding from Ngati Maniapoto and Waikato tribesman trying to kill him.

Many teams in New Zealand perform Haka before they play rugby or league and alot are specific to their teams or have reference to local tribes.

I'll leave the deeper explanations etc to the kiwis.

Haha...that is nothing compared to the new one

I reckon that's subjective... As much as I like the new one, there was just something so spine chilling about the way Tana started that one in 2004. I also think that the original Haka has a better rythym to it (if that makes sense), and seems to flow more naturally.

That makes perfect sense and I fully agree. I love watching Tana in that haka, he looks like some kind of orc warrior.

Its very cool!!! i like it!!!

Good for intimidating the opposition before a game. Italy doesnt even have the guts to face it

France stood up to it last year.....and looked what happened lol! Meet the challenge head on if you want a chance of victory.

Hi Gunner!

there are also other pacific nations that plays a sort of haka before their Rugby match:Tonga's Islands plays kailao ,Samoa Siva Tau, Fiji plays Cibi.
When these teams play a rugby match one against the other, they often plays their Hakas before the match coincidentally, it's a great pleasure to see it.
The Haka is also performed by some other New Zealand national teams, such as the Kiwis (rugby league) and the Tall Blacks (men's basketball); even the NZ's Army have a personal haka.

bye!

PS: During the WC, Italy doesn't face the haka following a coach's instruction, in other internaltional matches Italy honoured all Blacks facing thei dance. B)

I actually enjoy the Haka but if I was playing against the AB`s(fat chance) I dont think I would be too keen. IMO it gives too much time and respect to the all blacks without giving anything to the opposition. Now if all the All Blacks were Maori`s I wouldnt have any problem with it as its a cultural issue.

I see what you mean and often think about it myself. I do love it and hope it never leaves but sometimes I do feel as though it is a bit of a distraction.

As far as I know though all players who face it get as much out of it as the AB's do themselves. Must be awesome to face, would pump you up no matter what.

No I think it's every Springbok's dream to face the haka, and really I think it adds more to the game then it distracts, it's the ultimate intro to a rugby match.

just look at this video

Kamate vs. Sipi tao

look at how much it fires up the crowd, brilliant.
