Guiness Premiership News

I heard today that Bruce Reihana is travelling back home for a few weeks as his brother died. I don't have a link or anything though..

An awful shame, bless him.

[EDIT] Here is the link Poor Bruce...

Well then, I think you Saints are being a tad optimistic to think you will finish fourth this season.

My condolences to Reihana and his family.

Harry, this is what Carlos said...and I think the rugby we are playing is of a suitable criteria...I don't think its likly we will make them but...I can't see us being relegated yet though...

You have been playing well since the start of the year, but sadly for you, you have left it too late.

you're in the same kind of form saracens were in at the end of last season, we won something like 9 out of the 11 premiership matches played in 2005 we were 10th before that, and finished 5th and won the wildcard final (oh the good old days :D ) so it is possible and good luck saints!!!

Thanks...

Just arranged coach for Sunday for London Irish :)

Can't wait for that one...

i would love saints to do it - and who knows if they continue to play a fast, agrresive loose and open game then they could, especailly with match winners like spencer and lamont

To be honest, while Los makes a game look good and Lamont has finaly (sp)shown his finishing in the GP, it's Sharky and Damien Brown that have elevated Northampton this year. Commitment and passion... those 2 have more than any others in the league.

Yeah, its a shame Selborne Boome is out because he is such a lift in the pack, like Matt Lord but both of them can be devastating.

I don't want him to go, because I think he's a fantastic player, but I can see Boome being released next season.

With the limited salary cap in place, we can't afford to be carrying players, and I think he's missed more matches than he's actually played for us.

I think he will leave as contract expired after or just before he has recovered but I would hate to see him leave indeed.

At least it has given Harding etc a chance to shine.

Wookie is playing too bad either...

Didn't get a chance to mention it earlier, but I thought Bath at times played extremely well at Kingsholm today. Considering Gloucester were gunning for 2nd, and were only really missing Tindall and Forrester, our guys were superb. Putting twenty effective phases together to build towards Mears' try was simply immense.

Nice to see Andy Higgins actually doing something effective for once, as well. All credit for not giving up on what seemed to be a lost cause, and while Mercier will get the headlines for his howler, Higgins did have to dislodge the ball or it would have been recycled.

I can't for the life of me understand how Foster's try was given by the TMO. He was tackled and grounded the ball a good 2m short of the line. While still held by Crockett, Foster then crawled forward and placed the ball over the line. There was no momentum in play, and he made more than the permitted single movement (he could have simply reached out straight away if he was in range). At least it didn't turn out to be too important.

On an unrelated note, I'd like to formally apologise on behalf of Bath Rugby and it's supporters for the folical atrocities sported by Joseph Maddock and Andrew Higgins in todays encounter. They both need to get a hair cut and donate some to poor Andy Dunne, who looked like he was very, very ill with his new buzzcut.

This from the Gloucester website, of all places...

BATH completed a Guinness Premiership double over Gloucester â€" inspired by a monumental performance from their hooker Lee Mears to stun a sell-out Kingsholm.

The Bath hooker was in remarkable form. He is build like a little garden gnome but carried so much possession it was almost criminal, had a work rate the bordered on the ludicrous and generally caused Gloucester no end of grief with his effort and all over the field.

When he was not cropping up in the close quarters to drive Bath’s pack on again, he was spotted at each and every position in the back-line to shovel onwards and upwards. [/b]

Nice call on dropping him Robbo.

He's still got nothing on Thompson.

After the performance yesterday, I would pick Mears over Thompson any day

Only better lineout stats and a higher work rate. You don't see Mears hanging out on the wing when his team's struggling at the breakdown like Thompson yesterday.
