Guiness Premiership News

Sarries have got players who can perform, they just aint got players that can perform as a team. Im no expert but they just dont seem to have any belief in themselves, their body language on the pitch speaks volumes. You cant have a run of losses like that and not expect to get relegated, maybe they have just accepted it. Shame.

Following his red card after stamping on Wasps' Lawrence Dallaglio, Sale's Sebastian Chebal looks like he might be facing an even longer ban following his refusal to leave the pitch and spitting at an opponent.

Whilst I haven't seen any replays (I saw the game live), it all happened right in front of me, and I think the frenchman's behaviour following the incident probably did more damage than the stamping itself.

Whilst the stamping itself is unforgiveable, he may have been able to explain it partially by heat of the moment, combined with Dallaglio apparently 'grabbing some tackle in the tackle', but his petulant follow up will most likely lengthen his ban.

For his part, the England star showed once again he is a master of mind games and winning over referees, and was involved in another penalty-inducing incident shortly afterwards.

More information here

The red card must have been for Chebal's reaction, as it is widely accepted that stamping on Lawrence Dallaglio is not only legal in the laws of the game, but actively encouraged.

:D :D :D

Sadly I think the red card came before the reaction, although maybe it was because he didn't draw blood. He was obviously following the step by step guide to being the most hated man in a stadium:

1. Be a dangerous player from the away team.

2. Swan around like you own the place.

3. Stamp on local and national hero.

4. Refuse to leave pitch.

5. Spit at home player.

6. Eventually leave very slowly, as if oblivious to booing.

I was thoroughly agitated at the state of officiating at the Mad-jetski past Sunday.

He killed off the momentum of our team with silly decisions, such as not giving penalty try(s) for repatedly being offside on their own goal line, rejecting a try that John Clarke had obviousley scored. He called a ball placed on the LI line a knock on FFS!...

I'm watching RC this week just to here what they say about that tw*t Wayne Barnes...

Steve Lander > Wayne Barnes...

As predicted my yours truly (touch of the Los Loser there :p ), Selbourne Boome has decided to take early leave of Northampton. His contract was due to expire at the end of the season, but he wouldn't have been fit before then anyway and so decided to cut his losses. Shame to see him go, could have been a great player for us.

Saints have also signed 26 year old Connacht lock Christian Short, who will begin training with the club during the summer.

Didn't realise the game was in Italy...

Im glad Worcester or Northampton shouldnt be gettin relegated hopefully

Its too early to call but, I can't see a team like us and how we CAN play go down...

Neither Saints or Bath should be in the scrap at the end of the season. I'd probably say somewhere around 40 points will mean safety.

You could say that about saracens though considering we did beat biarritz back in october, but we deserve to go down now! :bravo: it will be the match against Leeds at headingley which will be the decider

Well the start Leeds have had means things can only get better for them, especially in their recent run of form...but considering their position..they are under some serious pressure.

40 points sounds safe ish, but not safe enough.

Nick Walshe has been named Guinness Premiership Player of the Month for February after some outstanding performances in Bath colours in recent weeks.
Walshe has played an instrumental role in Bath’s change of approach under new head coach Brian Ashton. A key leadership figure who always looks to keep his side in the front foot, the scrum half has been in outstanding form since December and is arguably the form player in his position in England at present.

Walshe, who caught the eye with his performances against Saracens, London Irish and Gloucester, received his award yesterday and said that it was a reflection of the hard work that has been achieved at the club.

"I am enjoying my rugby massively at the moment,†said the 31-year-old. “The past month of Guinness Premiership action has been really exciting for us, we are playing positive rugby and I am really enjoying being involved. There is a good vibe within the squad at the moment and we are all pulling together to ensure that we keep progressing as we have been doing in the Guinness Premiership over the last month.â€

Brian Ashton has singled out his scrum half for praise a number of times in recent weeks and on hearing that Walshe had won the award, the head coach said that the accolade was thoroughly deserved.

“I am really pleased that he has been recognized,†said Ashton. “Nick is a player who I have known for a long time and I remember him going on a couple of England tours four or five years ago when he pushed hard for a place in the test twenty-two. He is a player that understands and reads the game well and has played an integral part in helping to develop Bath over the past eight weeks.â€

SKY TV commentator Miles Harrison, who along with five journalists and PRA representatives from each of the twelve clubs nominated Walshe, said, "Nick Walshe of Bath has been absolutely outstanding over the month of February. The scrum-half has clearly revelled in his club's positive approach and has so often been the instigator of their attacking play. Nick's excellence merits this award."

Bath have resigned Waratahs centre Shaun Berne for next season. Berne's signed a three year deal after leaving Bath six years ago. In his final game for the club the inaugural Premiership final against Leicester, he broke his leg and immediately stated that he didn't want that to be his last match in a Bath shirt.

Apparently Frikkie Welsh has been granted an early release from his contract, and will return to South Africa this week to join up with the Bulls. It's a shame we never saw the best of him, but I don't think he's ever been happy at Bath.

In more Bath centre news, Olly Barkley has said he wants an extra week to decide over whether to sign on again at Bath or to join up with Sale.

Some interesting news there...not so sure about the Barclaycard transfer.....

...I think it would be best for him and the club if he stayed on at Bath.

It seems he is only interested in a move because the club aren't doing too well in the premiership atm.

Its his decision and might be a good move for him.

What does the Bath camp on this forum think?
