France vs New Zealand

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (C A Iversen)</div>
If anyone in France thinks that it's the way history will play out over and again, they truly are dreaming. Now that it's happened twice, they should be praying not to meet us in any part of a world cup. We will never be surprised again.[/b]

I'm sorry I misinterpreted that sentence thinking it meant we would not beat you again in a world cup <_<
Anyway my point was, the difference between our teams come world cups is not as big as it seems looking at scores like saturday's. That usually favors us with a boost of motivation and an element of surprise.
Apart from that I'm pretty much ok with all that has been said here

I haven't been a big fan of Rugby these last few years but DAAAAMN!...that game was awesome!.

If the rules could be tweaked to encourage more Rugby like that in the future I will be watching a lot more of it.

I do think penalties should be worth 2 points and Field goals 1 point. I know it would probably take away basically what Rugby has grown to be with the penalties and drop goals being a stand out feature of the game but twas just a suggestion to encourage even more running Rugby.

With tries worth 5 they will be even more valuable and enticing.[/b]

I used to be against the suggestion of penalties going to 2 points but I think it would work. DP should stay at 3 points though.

Drop goals are an art really, I'd hate to see them worth one point. they'd simply never happen again. The set-up, the positioning, the defence ready to run down on the man, it all makes dropped goals skillful. They aren't as boring as penalties, they require a team effort to secure the placement and territory. They are just right.

Still agree penalties kill tries a bit. Infringing just seems to never be stoppable though, so I don't know how to make tries more pushed for, but I do know it requires space. With the game the way it is, the defences are too good. Maybe having the hind-most foot on rucks changed to the 5m back of scrums?

>.> we have the best 1st 5 in the world who can do everything...but drop goal. Damn. On a brighter note, yes I do also agree that penalties should be worth less and in many cases free kicks should be awarded instead of penalties. I do enjoy the praise the AB's are getting, and it was an amazing match, but I think peoples expectations that the AB's can deliver like that every week is a bit much. France played great, exciting running rugby and therefore we played exciting rugby as well. Do you think come the Tri Nations, South Africa will want to play "exciting, running rugby"? No. They have got a team that revolves around choking the life out of the game. They play a form of rugby which is boring, methodic and eliminates the running game. Unless the rules are changed, we will see fewer of these games and more of the games in which playing it very safe and kicking will exsist.
That being said, it will be remembered as one of my favourite games, and most of the players I have a new respect for because of that game.

Increase the width of the pitch might work. Think i said this in another thread. And another problem with the 5m behind the ruck is, we'll get all this "turning into league" arguments.

IMO the ELV's were promising, just needed it to be tweaked and fine tuned. Too bad it was scrapped.. hmm

Tries will therefore be more costly to give away = more penalties. It would make as much sense to see more tries by giving 10 points for a penalty.

Well, what about... get rid of the law that says you can't pass back into the 22!!! That is causing most of the boring kicking, simply because it's far more likely you'll see attacking play from a lineout than you will from an isolated fullback running from deep...

The rule wich forbid to kick direct for a line out after a pass back in the 22 was to promote a more offensive game I suppose.

It works with many teams and in some special environment, like a France vs NZ test match, but I'd like to see some global stats, and I'm not quite sure of the result with the high number of ping-pong rugby it oppositely generates.

Am I the only one who's finding it amusing at the way the French front-rowers were celebrating in the first few minutes after winning a penalty in the scrum??

Yes, it's awesome to win a scrum penalty like that but come on.....FFS, the game has just started. There's still 70+ minutes to play.

But the most priceless moment was seeing their faces when they got rammed backwards leading to Kaino's try.

 Am I the only one who thinks that post is pointless and is only a hidden way of ungraciously saying "in your face"? They had a very good game apart from Marconnet, what's wrong with a little self motivation?
If you're fond of funny faces, you should check those ones though I think they're pretty good

This kind of arguments, if coming from Aussie or Bokke supporters, then I would understand....but from a French supporter ...

i just think when you win you should do it with class and not rub it in for the losing side. mainly cause you never know when you'll be the one to lose

I agree, he shouldn't really have worded things that way. By posting all those pics and saying what you have, you've gone and done exactly what he did, but gone further with photos.

When someone does something wrong, does it make you a better person to do it also?

So now we've gone from the Weekends game to 2 years ago!!! Have I missed something???

Silly isn't it? It's the whole '99 & '07 cups that they tipped us out of. They love rubbing it in our faces as though it'll happen every time we meet them in the world cup. I can't say for sure that our guys will beat them next time, but boy are they playing with fate mentioning it all the time. I know what lifes like, the more you talk yourself up the quicker you go down. Thats why it's interesting to see that the AB fans are saying we'll be respecting them in the next world cup, whilst they say history will repeat. Hmmmm, who's begging for a kick up the ass from karma?

Hahaha come on guys I think everyone just needs to :itsok: . I think some All Blacks fans wanna stick it to opposition teams sometimes because when it happens to us which isn't very often it's the biggest upset in the world and we don't hear the end of it.

OK!!! so maybe that last sentence in my initial post was pointless BUT my opinion on the whole celebration thing still stands.

and yes, you're quite right elgringo, there's nothing wrong with "a little self motivation", but the way I interpret their actions was as if they've won a match-winning penalty. They were shouting & head-butting each other.
Like I said before, this was still in the first few minutes of the game and there was still 70+ mins to play.

There's a saying - "Dont count your chickens until they've hatched".
