France v Ireland

Found a good picture of Murphy in Paris!...

a back 3 of Murphy, Bowe, and Kearney could do some damage[/b]
Wouldn't like that - very light weight. Let's face it - we just don't have strong sprinters like France.

Would the right wing have coughed up three tries if Horgan were there? Doubt it. That's the simplest solution.

I think it was a great match but ireland played a good game
Go France to GREAT CHALLENGE

I'm not going to sift through 7 pages, I just want to historically go into the annals of TRF as having said that I believe Ireland's second half was inspiring play. I hope they can capitolize on this and move forward and get a Tripple Crown. That's right you Welsh supporters, Ireland will win the tripple crown... :D

i believe that of a way ireland could put in trouble france would be by kicking high and testing heymans like argentina did in WC opening match and the result could be: heymans going up and probably make knock-ons or something

Good question - and why didn't Ireland try it in the RWC as well? Heymans was a disaster in defence (although I think Poitrenaud was their 15 when they played Ireland?) - but what a brilliant attacker.

I'd imagine they didn't try it cause they didn't want the French countering back at them and making the game more open, I still think it was worth a shot but not steady eddie.

Yes it was Poitrenaud.

Kicking High balls on Heymans ? Bad idea imo. He did a bad match against Argentina (like the entire and he wasn't the worst) but aside that match he never had difficulties under high balls... and his returns are deadly, especially if he combine with Clerc.

The main weakness of France aside scrum is the poor kicking game. Heymans, Traille are two big boots but they never find touch. Trinh-Duc is better with his hands and Skrela is just average. A good tactic would be occupy the french half, put some pressure and compel France to give back the ball to the opposite team...

Feeding Heymans with balls of counter attack is really a genius strategy if you want to get slaughtered instantly, especially given his current form. Apparently some people don't get that Laporte's choice to have him play at fullback against the pumas was NOT a bad idea, it's just that he couldn't handle the pressure of the opening match. As far as our kicking game is concerned, sometimes I feel that we have lost the ability to occupy the field since Lamaison really...
But hey, in a way, this forces us to play with our hands, which is good for the game.

The same goes for Clerc, Rougerie and maybe Malzieu - do NOT give them the ball in space!

I think that's why O'Gara didn't go for cross-field kicks, which is one of his best tactics.

Heymans' failure at the RWC was a huge disapointment - if he had been steady in defence in the first match, it would have been a France-ABs final.

Currently Heymans and Clerc are at the top of their level, there are really doing a good offensive duo.
