It's worth noting that it is UEFA that awards the CL place for winning the Europa league (and an EL spot for winning the Conference) and not the Premier League. Domestic league performance is irrelevant with these awards.

Because he’s a Liverpool born lad whose worked his way up and the way he’s run down his contract and joined our biggest European rivals.
Personally I don’t hold it against him. Liverpool should have sold him last summer if wanted a transfer fee. They can match the wages real are offering but can’t compete with the signing on fee on top and he wants to win the ballon D’or. There’s no longer loyalty in football anymore. Plus he’d be stupid not to take the money from a commercial POV.

Yeh I know they should change it especially in light that the Europa league is now a bit of a Micky mouse comp. It’s just a back door way for clubs like Man U and Spurs who’ve done so poorly in the PL to get into the CL and money on offer. It’s no longer on merit. Villa in 6th deserve it more.

Fans and club owners are happy to hound out/transfer out/sack managers and players who aren't performing to their expectations. I believe players and managers have the right to leave and seek new challenges provided they honour contracts and do things by the book. Trent has honoured his contract and given good service. Fans are perfectly entitled not to cheer or clap him but obviously those coked up bin dipping Reform voters will show their feelings.

Losing to them in two CL finals. Lost a few players to them in the transfer market - Tchouameni, Bellingham. That’s why it hurts a lot of Liverpool fans he’s joining them.
They are the biggest club in the world based on their trophy cabinet though. Be interesting to see how Alonso does especially with their dressing room and to. 3-4-3.

I suspect the feeling is that Trent thinks Liverpool are now beneath his level and the fact that he's a scouser won't help. Many fans are morons.
I wouldn't blame anyone for leaving the UK and escaping from our politics and culture wars. He should enjoy the weather, lifestyle and tapas (including olives!). Liverpool must be like a goldfish bowl for him.

I would say it's a football thing, and it generally is, but Liverpool fans are a bit of a special breed.

Football in particular is tribal and fans think players should be loyal to their clubs but don’t see that that ship sailed a long time ago.

Well when your club has won 6 CLs it becomes a different matter/level. Real with their history have 15. Look at other clubs - Man U on 3, Barca on 5. We’re talking European rivals. Not like Everton who have won FA and local one. That’s who Liverpool are competing with now and players good enough to win the biggest prize and money on offer.

What's that got to do with anything. I'm sure if Kane went to Chelsea he would’ve got a load of **** regardless of them not winning anything. Which is why I could understand if TAA went to one of Liverpool's actual rivals.
