Well i think Ugo Monye deserves a mention. Nokwe is one of the fastest players in SA, and couldn't catch him.

Monye has to be the fastest in Europe. Definitely in the Top10 i reckon. Chavhanga still takes top spot in my books. Any newcomer anyone has heard of that can burn???[/b]
To be fair, Monye had momentum from the intercept and a 10-15m head start before Nokwe could chace him, and Nokwe looked to be gaining on Ugo, though obviously not enough considering Monye's head start. That is one thing I don't like, when players have an obvious head start and score the try. and yet the player chacing got smoked. For example Sivivatu was probeblly 10-15m away from Chavhanga when Chavhanga "smoked him", The only realy way of telling is when they start from a simular spot with a difference of 3-5 metres, then it is a real race, and it is clear who is faster.

I never said he got smoked, and even with a head start, Nokwe is lightning, and only gained a small amount of ground on him. Nokwe is still faster.

As for the Chavhanga vs Sivivatu thing, he got raped. Simple.

Fair enough on the first part, the second is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p93mxSU2bJc did it not seem Sivivatu was too tiered to run? Like I'm not even saying that Chavhanga isn't faster, I believe he is, I am just saying from this try, I think it is hard to say this try was an accurate test, Chavhanga had a better running angle and a head start, and from what I remember of that game, that was about the second time in the whole game Chavhanga touched the ball, and it was about the 10th+ Sivivatu had. Again, I'm not saying Chavhanga is not faster, I just don't think the term "smoked" can be fairly used...but you know, what ever lol.

Brett Stapleton anyone? i cant believe this guy isnt getting any gametime. Its not like Australia is bursting at the seams with player numbers. Hes only 21, and has a PB of 10.2 seconds, hes also 90kg. all he needs to do is catch the ball.

Kurt Mulcahy in the brumbies set up is a 20 year old who runs the 100m in 10.5, imagine if these two could actually play good football, australia would be leathal.

There is a new fastest rugby player in world rugby though, Dallas Robinson. Hes an ex member of the USA olympic sprinting team, and the yanks have signed on to play sevens now that sevens is an olympic sport. Hes about 100 kilo, 6'4 and runs 100m in 10.03 seconds.
I cant wait to see this guy play.

That's awesome! So he will definitely be the fastest then! Anyway, here is another take from Roco on Tondie:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
All Black superstar Joe Rokocoko says that Stormers wing Tonderai Chavhanga is the "fastest man in rugby at the moment".

Rokocoko views Chavhanga as a major threat to his Blues side in Saturday's Super 14 clash against the Stormers at Newlands.

"He (Chavhanga) is a class player, there's no doubt about that. He is just the fastest man in rugby at the moment. The fastest ever is between him and Rupeni Caucaunibuca, and obviously Habana. There's just too many!" he told the Cape Times on Tuesday at the team hotel in the city bowl.

"But Tonderai is in my top three or four of all time. He is a guy that you can't give too much space to. He is just so light he can float on the ground. With normal wingers you can give them a bit of space, but you just can't afford that with him."[/b]

Do you mean from Europe or playing there ?

Waqaseduadua (Brive) is pretty fast.Sinoti To'omaga (Toulon) is no slouch either. As for French wingers, while not lightning fast Marc Andeu is pretty quick. Max Medard also has good pace.

Acording to Martyn Williams' Lions blog, there wasn't much between Ugo Monye and Shane Williams, and then according to the WalesOnline webchat with Leigh Halfpenny, there isn't much between Shane and Mark Jones, but aparently Leigh is quicker than Mark, who's also the same as Sean Lamont- Slower than both the Evans brothers according to Sean's brother.

Try solving that one.

Epic confusion!

Why is Sackey even being mentioned? He accelerates quick enough, but in the premiership alone he's been smoked by;
- Varndell
- Ashton
- Cato
- Monye
- Lemi
- Benjamin
- Oduza
- Simpson-Daniel
- Foden
- Tuilagi

I'd like to also say Cohen, but that was a long time ago...

Lelia Masaga's pretty quick and he's got a team mate in the Counties George Stowers that looks pretty damn fast too scored a couple of unbelievable tries.
I think for acceleration you can't go pass the little fullaz like Shane Williams, Jason Robinson etc. That's probably for the first 20m or so but anything after that it'll have to be guys like Chavagna, Nokwe, Habana etc.

How about who everyone thinks is the slowest wingers? I was watching the Taranaki vs Canterbury game and Stephen Brett passed a intercept to the Taranaki winger Shayne Austin but chased immediately and caught him about 60-70m down the field. Either Brett was really determined to right his wrong or Austin is slow.

Slowest winger: Paul Williams no doubt. The guy is painful to watch.

Shane Austin must be getting on to his mid 30s. thats 50 odd in winger years. Hes got all the tricks and moves and is one of the smartest players in NZ atm in my opinion, but he just doesnt have the legs anymore. Paul Williams would give him a run for slowest though.

Chavachanga - No doubt about it.[/b]

Heres a doubt. Dallas Robinson. 100 metres in 10.02 seconds.

Game over. Thanks for playing Chavanga, Monye, Habana and co, be sure to pick up your participation ribbons on the way out.

I know, it is wonderful, I just hope Dallas Robinson plays Rugby Union for US national team, regardless of if he has any skills or not, I just wanna watch him run.

I'll shutup now. :p

Ok, so general consensus is:

Fastest player in Rugby 7's : Dallas Robinson

Fastest player in Rugby Union : Tonderai Chavhanga

Fastest player in any code of rugby : Dallas Robinson

So, now we get to the fastest forwards:

My top picks are:

Pierre Spies

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3muAkT0K9Y

Ryan Kankowski

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmxfBUF7NHY

Tom Croft

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFHu6JCzrRM...feature=related

Stephen Ferris

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xdOX5iNkC8

Overall though, i will stick with Spies. He runs like a machine.

yep all these wingers are undoubtedly fast but one player that deserves a mention is a winger that in his prime scored the try regardless of whether or not the backline drew any players. John Kirwan was international rugby unions 1st ever get-the-ball-out-to-winger-and-he'll-score guy. Not only was he the fastest in his time but he burnt wingers all over the world from 1986 til 1990 or longer. He also scored speedy tries that I dont think we will ever see in an international or a world cup ever again. Because of John Kirwan everyone in NZ thinks 'just get it out to the winger and he'll score', because this was the case for John Kirwan.

John Kirwan was outstanding. He was fairly big (6'3" - almost 100 kilos), yet he had pace, sidestepping, acceleration, and what's more important, brain. He knew when to burst out and try to break the line. Last but not least, he is a great coach -- Italy really improved under his wing (pun?) and the same is happening with Japan.
