Talk about a narrow point of view...And what are you messuring Chavhanga's speed by? The fact he has bet a few people in a sprint? I gave reasons to why that alone is subjective as it depends on too many variables. I think there are faster players out there and if Chavhanga was so fast and noone cane catch him then why isn't he a regular starter for the Springboks?

As I said and I will explain it again for you, when you play in the Super 14 every countries talent is split into at least four diffrent franchises, diluding the talent, therefore it will be easier for someone to look very impressive and fast in a Super 14 match then it would for some one to look very impressive in an international as the standard of playing in an International is generally higher. I'm not saying he isn't the fastest man in rugby, however I am saying you can't be sure that he is as there is no way of measuring it and he hasn't to my knowledge beaten Habana's track record anyway, so there is no way to know - end of.[/b]

Talk about a narrow point of view...

- "Arguing with an opinion makes you wise, but questioning a fact makes you a fool"

what are you messuring Chavhanga's speed by?

- When he was 16 years old, he represented Zimbabwe as a 200m sprinter.
- Takudzwa Ngwenya (the guy who showed up Habana at RWC 2007) stated that Chavhanga is faster than him, and that he doesn't think anyone playing is faster.

why isn't he a regular starter for the Springboks?

- He has started for the Springboks, but is a player who is plagued by injury.
- Rugby is not only a game of speed. Although he is faster than any other player we have, it doesn't mean he is better at rugby...

- In Jake White's book 'In Black and White' He states that Chavhanga is the fastest player he has ever coached, faster than Habana.

Habana's track record

- Track record? You mean the "10.2" that everyone talks about yet has no proof of???
- Tonderai Chavhanga has admitted that his best time is 10.5 seconds, and Habana is rated as a personal best of 11s.
- Did you watch the Brumbies game???

- Like i said, Chavhanga represented his country as a sprinter... Trust me, he is faster.

On a final note, it doesn't matter whether you play Super14, or international rugby... If you are the fastest, you are the fastest. Here are some quotes from players around the world, as well as links you can follow to see that i am not making this up...

Asked to name the “fastest guy he’s ever faced†in this week’s "30 Seconds With" column in South African weekly newspaper Sunday Times, the Fiji-born New Zealander replied:
“I rate Tonderai Chavhanga (of Stormers and Springboks) as the fastest wing in the world. He is the fastest person I have ever seen on a rugby field apart from Rupeni Caucaunibuca. I’d love to have his lightness of foot. He looks like he is floating when he runs.â€[/b]

I was not bad, but it’s not true that I ran the 100m in 10.27 seconds. It was 10.5. 10.2 is pretty fast.[/b]

Wow, well done. I admit I have neither the energy or time to try and argue against such fine points. However as I mentioned people such as Rupeni Caucaunibuca does come off as faster and other people including the OPINIONS of "the New Zealand born Fijian" who I asume is Joe Rokocoko. Most of your facts do come off as other peoples opinions however you can't argue with Chavhanga was a 200m sprinter at 16 ect. On that note people such as Douge Howlett was a very good track runner and probebly could have represented New Zealand, I am not arguing that Howlett is faster cause in my opinion he is not. Either way while you have made some excelent points and clearly know Chavhanga very well, I still can't see him faster the Rup[eni Caucaunibuca...Although there is no doubt that he is one of the fastest wingers in the world.

Caucau in his prime, was definitely the fastest player in world rugby. If he and Chavhanga were to go head to head on the field today, Caucau will lose. If they were to go head to head when Caucau was in his prime, i honestly don't know who would win...

Anyone remember Matt Dunning going for the drop goal in over time and making it, even though they needed a try to win.

Yea its on youtube, legendary moment

Speed is important but to be honest Chavanga has been about for 5 or 6 years now and done next to nothing. Habana although he has lost speed, which to an extent was overated anyway, is a great finisher, hes score loads of tries.

I reckon we should start this topic up again with some new players. A poll including Takudzwa Ngwenya, Masaga maybe? Any players who are fast. Especially since this poll was made with players from 2 years ago. Anyway this is just my opinion.

Here is my list of suggestions:

- Tonderai Chavhanga
- Takudzwa Ngwenya
- Jongikhaya Nokwe
- Lelia Masaga
- JP Pieterson
- Tommy Bowe
- Tom Varndell

Tommy Bowe   Anesi caught him from 15 yards behind in the Barbarians vs Ireland match last year.

I would add..

Matt Tait
Ugo Monye
Tom Evans
Paul Sackey
Soseni Anesi

Well he burnt Shane Williams, who is no slouch.

I have seen Rockockoko burn Anesi, and Habana burn Tait. Sackey is a joke. Haven't seen enough of Monye or Evans to comment.

Hmm perhaps but Williams is 32 and he struggles over anything other than short distance, Bowe's quick but nothing like the quickest.

Habana didnt burn Tait, Tait gained about 10 yards on him over a 50 yard sprint.

I have seen that to and i dont think Rokocoko really burns him, more of a missed tackle by Anesi.

It looks like Tait catches him because of the angle he runs. Habana runs to score under the posts. If he had run in a straght line, i don't think Tait would have made the slightest impression. Although these days, with Habana persuing a career in bodybuilding, i reckon Ryan Kankowski would be able to catch him...

Anesi also got burnt by JP Pieterson last year. I think he just has really quick acceleration.

The start in roughly the same position but Tait has a good 10 yards more angle to cover. Anyway Tait also ran straight past Brent Russel who has great pace.

I think all out speed it looks to be Chavagna (spelling?) sorry but it's just that he doesn't use it as well as a player like Habana.
I watched the Bulls vs Brumbies and when that Lilafano or whatever it is caught Habana from behind it looked very impressive but it's of no use when youjust about catch him and he just fends you off anyway.

Wasn't that Francis Fainifo?[/b]
Yes ,it was he, I always get confused too with those two, they both have some "Faofaifoa" names and they look almost like twins when I watch the matches on PC  .

Anyway I think this thread can continue to the end of the times, because you can only suggest who is faster than who based in what you see on the matches, and the players have bad days and good days, sometimes I feel slow and sometimes I feel onfire,so this thread is endless unless there were some database of all the rugby speedsters records, guarantized and reguled by experts ,AND when you put the ***tle FASTEST PLAYER, you have not specified the range of distance (Fastest in 50mts-100mts)because there is some difference between great accelerators (like Shane Williams and Habana)and great long distance runners(like Pierre Spies, he is not the fastest in acceleration, but has great pace in long races)

B)

Excuse me if I made some orthographic mistakes.

In that Brumbies v. Bulls match where Fainifo nearly caught Bryan Habana -

1. Habana has probably 50kg of padding on whenever he plays

2. Habana was coming back from innjury

I don't know whether or not Habana was running at his full pace, but I still think Fainifo is not by any stretch one of the fastest going around.

completely agree with you

Well i think Ugo Monye deserves a mention. Nokwe is one of the fastest players in SA, and couldn't catch him.

Monye has to be the fastest in Europe. Definitely in the Top10 i reckon. Chavhanga still takes top spot in my books. Any newcomer anyone has heard of that can burn???
