[EOYT] Scotland vs South Africa 16/11/13

That's not wholly true. He has thrown numerous players into the deep end. Etzebeth, Coetzee, Taute all started their debuts and the next few matches amongst others. I don't think Etzebeth has ever been benched.

SA would get more from PSdT being involved than Botha. Meyer is delaying the inevitable by bringing back Fourie, du Preez, Botha. A young player will need to play eventually.

out of those 3 you mentioned, only Etzebeth has made the step up. that's a 33.33% success rate. And perhaps that's why Meyer didn't want to continue with that approach. And I think everyone will agree that Etzebeth is a special player.

Let's rather look at a guy like JJ and Malherbe, who were both slowly introduced to the international setup. And they have been very good. Did you know that Frans made the second most tackles last week against Wales, a total of 15 tackles just by him!! For a prop, that is unheard of!!

While I halfheartedly have to agree with you on the delay of the inevitable, Fourie and Du Preez still has another World Cup in them. Jaque only turned 30 this year! youngsters will play eventually yes, but why not stick with the old and trusted, and at the same time get the youngsters into the game too?? I think HM did a great job in the mixing of old and young into a successful team.

On top of those mentioned Arno Botha and Frans Malherbe were also rookies HM has thrown into the deep end who came through. Le Roux as well...

He could easily have chucked PSdT in there. True, Flip had a good game last week but in the RC him and Kirchner had nightmare games right after their best performances for the year in Brisbane.

False! Frans went on tour with the Bokke last year, but didn't feature at all. Arno Botha also toured with the team last year, but only made his debut this year against Italy.

Yes, and du Toit was part of the squad in the RC this year. If you compare the 2 situations, there's no reason why du Toit should be left out of this game, especially since it's the easiest of the 3. Give the guy 80 minutes and see how he does, unless HM wants him and Eben to play together against France...

Which would be awesome. But I doubt it will happen. Unless Flip plays badly or gets a card...

PSdT has also been involved with the Bokke. If he were to start a match this was the one to do so. An opportunity missed IMO. That said, I do trust HM and know I am being overly critical.

We are strange, aren't we??

I'm so excited to see Bakkies back, yet, I'm a bit miffed that PSDT won't play. And while many like Zeke are of the opinion that Flip shouldn't play, he had a great game against the Welsh. So nobody wins...

Well I think it points to the fact that we have good locks;

Eben is the now.
PSdT is the near future.
Bakkies still has something to offer SA IMO and seems to be playing good rugby at Toulon.
Flippen vd M can have a good game but tends all too often not to though.
We shouldn't forget about Bekker too quickly. He could come back though I can't see him in anything more than a back-up/fringe role.
Juandre Kruger shouldn't be considered at all IMO.
Franco van der Merwe only in the case of an absolute injury crisis though I think we'd be better off bringing in Lood de Jager or recalling Gerhard Mostert.
Then there is Paul Willemse who can potentially leapfromg a coupple of guys with a good showing next year in the SR comp.

Well, to help with this point, here's the explanation from HM on why he didn't pick PSDT:

I will wait to hear from HM why he did not include PstD in this match, all indicated he would.
Speculating and bad mounting it doesn't help. Knowing HM there is a reason (medical) or plan behind it.
If HM includes him on the bench for next Saturday it is justifiable as you don't wan to get him injured now.

So chill, he WILL be one of the Bok grats in the near future

the situation my friend.. without knowing the facts, the criticism if you missed it

Any case, here is the logic behind it:"

From HM ""I want to see where Bakkies stands. I am not just saying this, he has really been good for the team this week, and he has brought fresh vibes. I want to see what he can do. It was a big decision to leave Pieter-Steph du Toit out this week as I really rate him and want to give him game time, but Scotland have a good lineout and we would have had two new locks had Pieter-Steph played."

If we can't hurl abuse at the coaches and refs then what's the point of following the game besides watching the actual matches?

Well, I just don't agree with the reasoning behind it. Bakkies new? Yeah right. New as in, first time in 2 years, but he has a lot of experience. It's not like Strauss and Bismarck have not played with Bakkies before so the line-out argument is, the way I see it, invalid.

I just hope this means du Toit plays against France then. Otherwise this whole year has been a waste with regards to calling him up. I would have preferred Bakkies to play against France with Flop and have Etzebeth-Du Toit as the combo this week.

Backing the Boks on this one.
There are a number of Scottish players I really like (Hamilton, Barclay, Beattie, Laidlaw) but my wish to see Richie Gray lose overrides all of that.

Also JdV is fast becoming my favourite player/captain - also loving Habana recently. In my head I've just got memories of kick tennis whenever I think of Habana, but he's playing very very well, and looking fast as ever. Flouw is immense, as well.

I want to see a try by De Villiers. I have him in my Fantasy team

:p

Scotland are the only other nation that I feel the need to support! (Unless it's against NZ.. and unless it's England vs NZ :p)
Hope they and do this to make it getting over last night easier.....

People rag on God Save The Queen but Flower of Scotland has to be one of the worst songs in existence. It's just an annoying droning noise.
