[EOYT] Scotland vs South Africa 16/11/13

Oh, was that the only thread this has come up?? odd...

I see. You're not even TRYING to be positive and do the right thing. You're not even trying
If you'd rather choose to dislike me for no good reason and claim I do things I don't actually do - please find one quote where I wind someone up, please - then the problem has always been in your head, not mine.
I can't respect that you wouldn't even try to work this out reasonably, this confirms you're truly of the low level I thought before.

Let's just mutually pretend the other isn't on this forum. I've tried reasoning, when I have done no wrong. You wouldn't even TRY to work with me. I must abandon all hope, as poetic as it sounds it's nothing too big really !

If I have to do that, my fingers would get blisters from pressing CTRL-C and CTRL-V

Soo.... go Scotland?

Anyone know a good place to watch this online?

The Boks have gone back to set piece basics with the new scrum laws catching their imagination and they're better for it. I don't think even an infamous Scottish downpour will redress the balance this time. Boks by 10pts. Scotland have a better chance when they play Oz next week.

Matt Scott has a hand injury that has taken him out of the remaining November games...

Well I thought Scotland had a good chance of putting up a fight with SA. But Scott is getting better with every game. Losing him is a big plow.

SA by 7+ points.

Not much news on the Bok front apart from Morne Steyn being the only injury concern. He has a strain in his lower back and didn't practice yesterday. According to Supersport, he will start today with light cardio training to see if his back has recovered. They will not make a call up to the last minute and chances are that they will give him time up to the captain's run on Saturday.

Other than that, the team is fully fit, and suggestions are that Bakkies Botha will make his comeback appearance this weekend. As HM is looking to mix it up before the French clash.

How nice is it to have a mostly fit squad!

True, Steyn is injured and we are still missing Hougaard, Arno Botha and Jaco Taute while PSdT and Goosen are only recently back from long term injuries but this just feels like a minor setback (apart from Goosen who I'd have loved if he had already had 12 caps under his name.. Taute to some extent as well but I think while he is out we need to have Le Roux there so that we have multiple alternatives to forcing Lambie or Kirchner at 15). Jannie du Plessis's injury I see as a blessing in disguise while I don't even count Schalk Burger and Spies as part of the squad anymore.

The squad is slowly but surely taking shape. It'll be interesting to see what the plans are with Frans Steyn long term seeing as he has got his contract. I mean at 12 we have captain and in from JdV as well as the hugely hyped up and coming Jan Serfontein who has impressed with the limited game he has got and at 13 I don't think he has the game to displace Jaque Fourie or pace to compete with Engelbrecht on hard fields. 15? I'd prefer Le Roux and Taute to be our main options there so that leaves a 12/15 bench spot where he is a good option. BUT THE BOY NEEDS TO GET LEAN!!

There are a bunch of guys that needs to get lean: Frans Steyn, Jaque Fourie, Jaco Taute and JP Pietersen...

But I don't understand the Johan Goosen problem. I can see why HM don't want to risk him, based on what happened last year, which was actually a freak injury... But he has played the last 3 games for the cheetahs, 2 of them were starts. and he didn't look at all uncomfortable. And why pick him if he's not going to play? they could just have left him out, added Jano Vermaak and used Ruan Pienaar as the third option fly half...

You know HM likes to take young guys he has a plan for along even if they don't play they get that exposure and are more at home travelling with the squad and see how things work. That said I too want to see Goosen get a game off the bench.

I agree JPP and Jaque Fourie look a little rusty and not up to tempo what with being based in Japan. TBF Taute hasn't played any rugby in how long now so it'd be expected. Hopefully a decent run at 15 for the Stormers next year God-willing without serious injury will se him back and pushing for a spot.

And with JPP and Frans getting Springbok contracts, there is a definite plan with them.

You're entitled to your opinion; it's getting excited, calling names and being detestably disrespectful to others I won't take.
I don't know what I have to do for you people to understand I'm not looking for trouble one bit...

Like on this very thread, heineken, give me one sentence that is crossing the line, and in any way looks like it is trying to provoke people gratuitously ? You won't, but still try since you're hellbent on making me a scapegoat it seems.
For anyone with a clear, logical mind, it's rather limpid I come here to comment on Rugby. Period. I make jokes too, but that's it.
If you're referring to nick from that "Hard men" thread, read it again, this time without your bias of blind hatred for me, and tell me who crossed the line, and who was just trying to make a little spicy joke. Go on, since you're making a case out of this, you better back it up, do it the whole way, or no way at all.

Have to agree with you there yoe. Nothing is ever yoe's fault. Yoe just goes around making incredibly funny jokes - and keeps getting attacked by the morally less virtuious that confuse his good natured humour as him being an argumentivive, self-rightious ****.

Just when I thought yoe/big Ewis/froggy/frenchy/doha douche/self-righteous *** was done with his posts on this thread you had to come and pour petrol onto the fire... Geez, thanx

No!!! SA, Scotland, that's what this thread is about..

Ah, er... SA by 20!

I want to see our team first...

It will change my mind about the margin of Victory for the Bokke. if we pick a kakkish team, we'll win by between 5 and 12 points. If we pick a good team, then we'll win by between 20 to 40 points... depending on the weather...

I don't know, hey. in a lot of places I think our '2nd' players are actually capable of inflating a scoreline more than the 1st choice players are even if the 1st choicers are more 'solid' even if the 1st choice players should rightly start against top 7 teams for the most part.

I mean Engelbrecht's pace over Fourie, Le Roux over 14JPP or 15Lambie, Kolisi can be an asset in attack, Coenie is a better ball carrier than JdP/Malherbe and will ensure a turn over or two to attack off of, Goosen can exploit space better than both Steyn and Lambie (both with ball in hand and putting others into it) and PSdT has a massive work rate... though I do feel some of the 1st choice player need to be there for those guys to fire, guys like FdP, Habana in the back and the majority of our forwards to create the framework an opportunities for the previously mentioned guys to work within.

I agree with you. And maybe I should've rephrased it better.

I for one, would start Goosen, and have Lambie at fullback. Get Willie on the wing, and move JDV in Habana's spot (just to give Habana a rest too). Then move Jan and JJ into the centres and have Fourie at 9.

Ja, you'll find many people preferring Strauss to Bismarck in fact. A little more disciplined, a little more dynamic even if a tad more rotund as opposed to Bismarck being a tank. In NH conditions you'll have to give the edge to Bissie but, yeah, very little to choose between the two and one position where we are somewhat blessed even if we struggle to find definate world class players in others.

Scotland team announced:

Scotland: 15 Sean Maitland, 14 Tommy Seymour, 13 Nick De Luca, 12 Duncan Taylor, 11 SeanLamont, 10 Ruaridh Jackson, 9 Greig Laidlaw (c), 8 Dave Denton, 7 John Barclay, 6 Al Strokosch, 5 Jim Hamilton, 4 Richie Gray, 3 Moray Low, 2 Ross Ford, 1 Al Dickinson
Replacements: 16 Scott Lawson, 17 Ryan Grant, 18 Geoff Cross, 19 Jonny Gray, 20 John Beattie, 21 Chris Cusiter, 22 Duncan Weir, 23 Max Evans

I'll add both line-ups to the OP when they are announced.

I expect Strokosch to be watched very closely; he was very strong over the ball in June even if he did get away with coming in off side nearly every time. Scotland not looking bad at all on paper though I do still see us as clear favorites, particularly looking at those props mentioned for Scotland or am I simply ignorant in that regard?

de luca
