[EOYT] Georgia vs. Canada. 09/11/13

Evans could even be an option if worse comes to worse....my guess is Underwood will start, it would probably be my choice as well, he was OK against a quality Maori side will interest me how he does against a side with a very different game plan and strengths.

For Canadian fans good news the IRB will be streaming the match on IRB.com!!!

1 Hubert Buydens (Manawatu)
2 Ray Barkwill (Castaway Wanderers)
3 Andrew Tiedemann (Castaway Wanderers)
4 Jon Phelan (Lille)
5 Brett Beukeboom (Plymouth Albion)
6 John Moonlight (James Bay)
7 Adam Kleeberger (Castaway Wanderers)
8 Tyler Ardron (Ospreys)
9 Phil Mack (James Bay)
10 Liam Underwood (Balmy Beach)
11 Phil Mackenzie (Sale)
12 Harry Jones (Capilano)
13 Conor Trainor (UBC Old Boys)
14 Jeff Hassler (Ospreys)
15 Matt Evans (Cornish Pirates)

16 Benoit Piffero (Blagnac)
17 Djustice Sears-Duru (Castaway Wanderers)
18 Jake Ilnicki (Auckland Colts)
19 Tyler Hotson (London Scottish)
20 Nanyak Dala (Castaway Wanderers)
21 Jamie Mackenzie (UVic Vikes)
22 Nick Blevins (Calgary Hornets)
23 James Pritchard (Bedford)

Canada roster has been announced some big surprises Sinclair will not play at all, Pritchard will also be on the bench when his kicking boot could be a huge difference in a close match and also Ardron will captain the side...to be frank I hate that call, I love Ardron as a player but having a 22 year old guy captain is a dubious decision at best. Surely Pritchard should start and be captain ir even Buydens and Kleeberger would have been better options. I also dislike Jones starting at #12 he was dour against the Maori should have been on the bench than Evans could have gone to CT or WG and Pritchard could be goal kicking.

edit: canadafan was posting it as I typed it will add it to top of thread.

My thoughts:

Maybe Sinclair has a knock? Thought Evans went well last week so don't mind him starting again, we need to manage Pritchard if we want him to make it to 2015.

Glad to see the same 9-10 pairing

It could be a fairly weak Canadian front row, the starters will be OK, Buydens, Barkwill and Tieddemann most likely, but if any of them have to go off early the backups look a little shocking.

I think this game will be decided in the last 15 minutes and our coaches usually use all the subs available so I'm thinking it will be the game of benches in the end that will decide the fate of the game.... How deep do you think Canada lineup is for this game ? for us there isn't much past starting 15 besides Khinchagashvili and Zibzibadze

Was he okay though? Close analysis showed that him taking poor options led to two of the Maori tries (http://raysrugby.wordpress.com/2013/11/05/the-breakdown/) and Crowley will know this.

Evans at 10 has been canned, probably because of his club position which is unfortunate as Canada have many more wingers than fly halves. Not sure what is going on with that youngster at Clermont either, he wasn't even in the ARC squad.

The Canadian bench aside from 16-18 is very good, in the front row the options are bad but 19-23 are all very good players ,I'd actually like to see two of them starting.

@ canadafan, yeah don't mind Evans getting into the side, but would have preferred Jones not to be, I think this could still be a tight game and Underwood or Jones goalkicking is nowhere near as effective as Pritch, surely Romania and Portugal were better chances to experiment. But I agree with your general assesment on Pritch being managed he is unlikely to start all four RWC games in 2015.

Sinclair must be a knock agreed, probably same with Hearn with March being left out of the side on quality reasons.

I watched the maori game and Canada was very impressive if they manage to open up the play they will most likely win the game. but that kind of game will be very hard vs Georgia since we will slow down the ball in the ruck and be more physical in contrast to maori free flowing game, this will be a battle not a dance

He still could play against Portugal, this squad is only for the next two games.

I know Hassler and Ardron are unavialable for Portugal as they are returning to Ospreys. I saw Portugal's side and it is a little weaker and inexpereinced they had a coaching change and are making some huge transitions. I think we could see some 7's guys added to our side and maybe a few other editions, e.g. Paris, O'Leary etc.

Was there any word on O'Leary? Or as I suspect is he holding out for hopes that Ireland will give him a call.

Theres little chance of that happening. Sexton is the oldest 10 in the Ireland squad and he'll be around for 4 more years minimum. Then you have Jackson, Madigan, Hanrahan and a few others coming through. I'd say the Canada coaches don't want to be too obvious in capping him before he has earned it on merit. It would send out the wrong message.

There have been some very young FH's tried out in Canadian games recently, I don't think anyone in Canada would be too upset if O'Leary got a cap against say Portugal if it tied him down. He may not end up being the go to guy here but he's worth a shot for us as right now it's a consensus of the young and mediocre.

Agreed, the only person in Canada who would be ****** off if O'Leary is capped would be Mark.

HAHAHAHA I can see it now....."surely there is a product of the CDI that can be capped instead!!!" I see he was in a tizzy about a Meghan Mutrie article the other day, one that was essentially explaining to casuals on TSN why our pro's didn't get released for the Maori game.

Ashame TSN nor Sportsnet looked to pick up the Georgia game, I know the time zone isn't ideal but if they are going to run with rugby a little why not pick up the other tests especially since they are all winnable games. Looks like a 7:30 a.m. stream then.

@ jonny24. 7:30 a.m. EST(Ontario) so early wakeup on this side of the country.

Are you still on the East coast of the States Toko? I think it's 5 a.m. also there that the game starts.

Not a hard choice there, it's only an hour earlier than usual. I tried that all-night stuff during the world cup. No thank you
