[EOYT] Georgia vs. Canada. 09/11/13

Just a point on Carpenter. What''s the reasoning on Carpenter at #2? Is he better than Barkwill at the scrum and lineout? If so, why has Canada never used him as a number 8 to throw in?

Bad luck for Canada, they looked to be doing okay then a new load of injuries strike the front row and best forward and best back. They seem to be cursed.

It was to get him out of the backrow, where their is a crapload of depth, to be frank he's not going to be missed that much out of this side since we are filled with loosies to the brim. It's really the fact they gave him the captaincy role when Riordan retired. The conversion to Hooker is an attempt to extend his international career, and it's also a position where we lack depth.

I'm not too worried about our side this November except for the front row where the depth is frankly shocking in this squad.

Van De Merwe is missing for personal reasons, his wife gave birth last week and I think he wants some time off to spend with his family.

Yes, Canada's props on the bench are only just out the JWRT. Georgia have been shorn of their first choice front row and their scrum can tend to be a bit overrated, but they will still have pros from the Top 14 in the lineup.

I agree with most of your lineup, apart from I might swap Ardron and Sinclair around in light of the former's good game at lock last weekend. Ardron is fast improving and looking like the new Al Charron at the minute.

I was 50-50 on this as well, either way I think we are really set from #4-8.

If Buydens or Tieddemann get hurt dear lord, I have no idea who can be called up from our CRC and ARC squads to replace them. It won't be as important against Portugal, but Romania and Georgia could school us if er are playing the junior guys.

For those who don't know the positions of some of the new guys this tour I have broken down by position

Switch Sinclair and Ardron it does't matter to much to me. However, like PD said, he did pretty well at lock on the weekend so maybe keep him there and let Sinclair play at 8 where he is best.

If Buydens or Tieddemann get hurt then we are bringing Rod Snow out of retirement. LOL

I know nothing about Piffero. Does anyone know much about how he is doing in France?

He is 25 and is French raised but holds a Canadian passport due to a parent from Quebec I beleive. He began in the Montpellier academy than the Cudmore's convinced him to take a chance on playing in Canada and maybe cracking the national team at Hooker since they knew it was a postion that Canada didn't have a ton of depth in. He played at Romans in Federale 1 in 2011 and 12, but spent all of last year in the CDI and later CRC competitions he did fairly well here but returned to French club rugby at Blagnac in Federale 1 this year.

He's getting a few minutes off the bench at Blagnac so far, don't think he's setting the world on fire but he's probably the best option we have as Govorchin did not impress at the ARC.

Also apparently Ardron and Hassler will be unavailable for the Portugal game, as part of a deal that the Ospreys released them for the Maori game. I have no idea if somone will be called in to replace them as that would leave us with barely enough guys to fill out the 23, and the 7's guys have an event the next week so maybe Scholz or someone will fill in for Hassler.

That is great, They were both critical to remaining competitive against the Maori and we should be fine without them against Portugul unless we get hit with more injuries. I'm surprised they haven't named a couple more to take on tour, just for insurance purposes.

My thoughts exactly, without them it could have gotten ugly on Sunday, it was critical we put up a competetive performance at home in front of huge stadium and TV crowds. They were both outstanding, and realistically Dala or Kleeberger can fit in for Ardron and probably Scholz or Blevins for Hassler in the Portugal test.

I wonder whether the 7's side will be treated as a relief pool for loosies and backs, they have the NACRA event this weekend but than are free till the 29th. Paris might be an option for Hassler, heck even DTH might be coaxed out of his personal leave if it's only for one game. I'm worried about injuries to our front row Govorchin must be 3rd string Hooker, but props...wow any warm body CRC player who can take some time off of work I suppose.

Random note....first time in a long time Sean White has failed to make a tour side, he didn't have a great ARC though so not too shocking.

Does anyone know why Wooldridge isn't going to Europe?

I'm almost positive he hurt his shoulder against the Maori...Rugby Canada must have overlooked his name in the press release, only other reason I can think of would be to join this rumoured club in France(assuming Bourg en Bresse with the close to the swiss border clue)

ahhh maaan I was looking forward to seeing DHTVDM in Georgia :( By the way I think we could come up with a great name for VDM junior :D something worthy of his lineage.. any ideas ? i mean it would be pity if they named him just Josh, Brad or something along those lines :/ last name like that deserves more of Jean Francis Maximus VDM

EDIT: I didn't think this through well I just realized it could be a girl too lol so maybe Jane Francia Minerva will do in that case

My line up for Georgia would be:

1. Buydens
2. Barkwill
3. Tiedemann
4. Hotson
5. Beukeboom
6. Ardron
7. Moonlight
8. Sinclair

9. Mack
10. Underwood
11. Evans
12. Mackenzie
13. Trainor
14. Hassler
15. Pritcahrd (c)

16. Piffero
17. Ilnicki
18. DSD
19. Phelan
20. Kleeberger
21. Mackenzie
22. Jones
23. Hearn

Our pack will be able to match up well against Georgia. Think Canada should be looking at least a win by 5+. If not then we have no hope of actually causing an upset at the RWC.

That is really exactly what I would like to see in two years.

Bad news for Georgia, Edinburgh back row Dima Basilaia is injured...

so its going to be our weakest front row in a while vs one of the best Canadian front rows ? Interesting....

ffs Basialia is cursed :( its the one player I'm always looking forward to seeing, along with kakovin and sharikadze but the former two are constantly injured

It could be a fairly weak Canadian front row, the starters will be OK, Buydens, Barkwill and Tieddemann most likely, but if any of them have to go off early the backups look a little shocking.

Which fly half would you start Little Guy? Underwood's decision making was woeful last week, two of the tries conceded stemmed from it. Harry Jones and Conor Braid are the other options. It seems Crowley picks his 10 out of a hat currently.

Braid is not in the squad that travelled to Georgia so it is between Jones and Underwood. I would go with Underwood as I am not a Jones fan, but knowing Crowley, he will keep the rotation at 10 going.
