[EOYT] France vs South Africa 23/11/13

Daft from Louw. Fair play sticking up for your captain but to do that right in front of the ref...

Should hand out suspensions to referees.

edit. France can still win.

I think Barnes has been a tad officious but his reputation (and prejudice from previous mistaken views of him) seems to be leading the criticism here as he has not made the video calls and has had a decent game!

While i agree with you the only way thats a fair yellow is if the french guy was yellowed aswell.

Bullsh#t.
Slap on the back of the head is not equal to leaning your body weight in someones face.
The French player was penalised, as Barnes said, but it was reversed for the retaliation.

Man they just gave the penalty to SA. That was so dumb. Always find it crazy to see "professionals" concede these stupid penalties.

It was handbags man there was nothing in it he just leaned on the guy and gave his face a bit of a rub. That happens in nearly every game of rugby since year dot. Both of them have got to be yellowed in fairness Reversed for Retaliation is the biggest cop out a ref can make.

Well that game was an anti climax. Was expecting a greater contest. France sure know how to screw up overlaps. Ball retention was awful too. Don't know how they kept it so close for majority of the game!

Good year for the most part, guys. Very proud of your efforts, even the losses against NZ. Now enjoy your holidays and I pray you idiots who are playing for the Barbarians next week don't get yourself in trouble against Fiji.

Best part of this game for me was the SA scrum. Good to see our guys beyond Jannie du Plessis (all of Malherbe, Oosthuizen and Adriaanse) can mix it with the best and even come up tops. Just goes to show all these guys need is the opportunity. Jannie won't make it to RWC2015; he's already too much of a liability in open play.

Yeah, the game got realy ugly and scrappy. But to be fair apart from Barnes it was mostly due to both teams not given the other much to work with.

Anyone understand why the SA try was disallowed?

The Domingo yellow was absolutely absurd, as was the penalty against Slimani for "leading" with his forearm.
...Seriously, since when are you not allowed to push against a tackler using your forearm?

SA deserved the win and by a margin of more than 9 points; I thought they really controlled the territory overall. French did well and disrupted the Springbok line out, but lost the breakdown battle. SA firmly the 2nd best team in the world.

Ja, I think all 3 yellows could have been let go. I suppose on technical points the ref has the right but it just felt against the spirit of the game if that makes any sense; it's sad to see such marginal ccalls make a big impact on the game; its a contact sport; there is going to be some ****le and rough stuff. Nothing I saw warranted more than a penalty at least in my eyes if not the letter of the law (if that).

As for the TMO calls at the tries/non-tries. I'll just write it off to the home side getting the rub of the calls. You have to be able to overcome that if you are wanting to win consistently away from home.

I don't believe that at all.

Take the late hit on Habana. Clear penalty - but what if Habana jumped straight up and booted the tackler in the head. Should it still be a penalty against France?

I completely agree.

Dulin looks like he could be a diver, what's he like the T14?
