England vs Australia

So no ones agreeing with my idea to put Sheridan centre? :p

I think England willl win this but if Tindall's and Hape's defensive positioning is as bad as it was against New Zealand then Australia will cut England to peices. The England tight 5 should destroy Australia's and if England starve Australia of possession then I think England will be able to go through the phases and find space where they can use their very talented back 3. England need to shut down Austalia's back row they are key in the link between The wallabies forwards and backs. England by 3-6

Just read that England will be debuting their "Anthracite & Red" kit for this game.
Because everyone knows that Gold and White are impossible to tell apart....

I actually really like the new change kit, so I'm not too fussed, but it's stupid that it's just a money making scheme. Wear it when up against USA/Fiji/Argentina, a team that actually has a white/light kit, not just for the hell of it, so people want to buy it from the store afterwards.

Is "anthracite" a colour?

What happened to this one then?

Did they get bored with it?

As far as I am concerned, this is just another attempt to muscle in on our Black jersey

they using it on the Wallabies not the all blacks. It's just for money

Nike are releasing new kits every year these days, so the purple was only actually used once =/

Also, Anthracite is a colour, like a darker gun metal. I'd just call it grey, but that's their tagline for the kit
Also also, New Zealand haven't copyrighted the colour black as far as I'm aware ;)

why england? At the risk of making reactionary statements and over-exaggerating, I really think this kind of rampant commercialism is selling the England team's tradition and history simply to entrap the team's fans into shelling out more money.

I hope the public have the sense not to buy this change jersey. We're playing one of our biggest historical rivals, at the most famous rugby stadium in the world which is also our home, and we're turning out in a black kit. And we did the same disrespect to the Argentines last year.

This isn't marking any historical event, like when the Kangaroos wore the QLD/ NSW colours for their centenery test, or our kit vs Wales this year. We're not hosting Fiji or the PIs so there's no colour clash. It's not even a random world cup warm up game, nor an 'England XV' playing a non-capped test. This is a serious fixture. It ******* ****** me off.

Maybe not, but it seems kinda stupid to most people to see England run out in what amounts to an "All Black" lite jersey... in fact it's almost pathetic. When did "Anthracite" become an English representative colour anyway? It just seems weird for a country that is ostensibly so proud of its rugby traditions to have such little regard for continuity in their national team's representative jersey.

Maybe its just a difference in perspective though. Australia, New Zealand and South Africa have held onto their respective jersey identities for the better half of a century now (well, Aus really only changed to gold predominantly in the '60s, but you get the picture) and it is generally understood that any team turning out in a colour that is not traditional is a bit of a no no unless it's really necessary (like the All Blacks wearing grey against France). I mean ****, you don't even see Australia changing their Jersey back to predominantly green...

lol, really does look like "All Black envy" doesn't it? It's like an AB jersey without the class, tradition and reputation... wait, actually I suppose it's not an awful lot like it on second thought :p .

and the All Blacks only had to wear grey because the French changed their bloody kit from royal blue to navy.

I agree completely, England should wear white with a red rose - change only when neccesary.
Also think releasing a slightly-different-kit every season is **** as well, should only do it every two seasons at the least

Could understand the red, seeing as England is White/Red, and the purple (kind of) as purple is a "regal" colour - don't get the new one. As I said in the thread when it was launched, i actually really like the look of it - but as a training top or something. Shouldn't be a playing kit.

The England jersey in Gingers pictures underneath his posts is nice. Thats unmistakably England with a fancy red trim (I feel like a **** with that last sentence lol).

the home kit still shouldn't have had the swoosh.

It sounds draconian, but I'd start getting the iRB/ RFU to compile lists of teams' traditional home kits and their colours and designs, and force the modern ones to be based on that. So, for my side Saracens, the kit would have to be a plain black shirt (with optional red trim), plain black shorts and red or black socks, and nothing else is allowed. Our kits on the whole follow this pattern, but other sides like Leinster, Sale and Gloucester (to name but a few) have thrown their identities in the bin with their shocking designs.

And can we go back to having proper logos that actually mean something to the club. There has never been anything remotely Sharky in Sale, and it's a constructed moniker rather than a traditional nickname (like Leicester Tigers). Let's have the wheat sheaf back and the shark in some soup at the local takeaway.

I'd go further than that, I would have a set of Regulations on dress code that must be adhered to. What is happening now is just bullshit; Wales playing in black/yellow, France playing in dark blue, England in purple or black. This is just blatant and shameless marketing, and it detracts from the traditions of our game.

► International teams should only be allowed ONE primary strip and ONE alternate strip.

► Both strips MUST use only the traditional colours (two only out of three maximum) that the country has always played in.

► The alternate strip can ONLY be used when both teams would otherwise be playing in similar colours, e.g. Italy v Samoa.

► Who wear the change strip can be by mutual agreement; if no agreement can be reached, then the visiting team plays in the change strip, or at a neutral venue, a coach's toss of coin 24 hours prior to kick off can decide the issue.

The traditional colours in use before all this bullshit came about were;

Team............. Primary:jersey+shorts...............Alternate:jersey+shorts
New Zealand... Black+Black.............................White+Black
Australia......... Gold+Green............................Green+Green
South Africa... Green+White...........................White+Green
England......... White+White............................Red+White
Scotland........ Dark Blue+White......................White+Dark Blue
Wales............ Red+White...............................Green+Red
Ireland.......... Green+White............................White+Green
France.......... Royal Blue+White.....................White+Royal Blue
Italy..............Azure+White..............................White+Azure.
Argentina......Sky Blue&White hoops+White...... Mid-Blue+White

National unions should be made to return to their traditional colours, enforced by regulation if necessary.

OMG! Ths match is probably the tighest balanced game of test rugga lined up for the weekend and the thread turns into a 'What not to wear' episode. Seriously. As for the game, it's a clash of different strengths and I would back England if they're forwards can neutralise the true Aussie threat; Pocock. Sure, the wallabie backline look dangerous but they need the ball and they are at they're most dangerous with turn-over ball. Pocock is the reason IMO that SA lost out to Aus 2-1 this year rather than being 3-0 up. Not always legal but if he gets away with it. Has been much more effective than McCaw this year. Damn, I miss Brussouw.

Could this possibly be the one issue where the majority of both hemispheres fans agree? :)

For what it's worth, I have a blue 2004 England training/change shirt and it's my favourite one that I own. Then again, since I stopped playing I can't fit into any of my other shirts (baqr my knackered 1999 cellnet shirt), so maybe I'm just being a tight git!

Would just like to point out to you that....

Wales wore black jerseys as part of celebrations for the WRU's 125th anniversary in 2005, as Black was one of the colours Wales first wore as a kit against international opponents. So while Wales did wear Black that year, it was for a good reason.

However I do agree that they should stick to certain colours, but then again in this modern day where money is involved, the demand for different colours and kit is there so the unions exploit it.
