England v Japan - 24/11/2024 (16.10)

What are Japan's forwards like at the moment? Their second row is tidy but beyond that I don't really know. Can they handle an arm wrestle and get one over on us with a bit of backs magic at the right time?

I jolly well hope not ! 😳

Apparently their star number eight is back. He didn't play in the June game.

Their props are pretty good in the loose, number8 is good, locks tidy. From watching them, talented, but gas early.

We need to see a good performance tomorrow. Both in attack and defence...

Dunno which result counts as an upset for Sco vs Aus ;)
Only if you count that if Australia win then Australia go above Scotland and England in the world rankings. On the other hand if England lose then they go down to 10th below Fiji.

Can't really win though? Playing expansively is apparently a bad idea but if we play ugly, we'll be criticised for it too.

Playing running rugby is only a bad idea if we do it badly or the conditions don't suit it.

That's exactly where this conversation started though - that the conditions won't suit it.

Nothing against running rugby. But it's more important that we develop the mindset of doing the right thing at the right time. If it's on, run it, if it's not don't. Going into a match determined to run everything is as dumb as deciding you're going to kick everything.

Either way, there's no real upside for SB today.

100% this.

In other news, Stephen Jones is calling for Marcus Smith to be dropped, with one of Ford, Fin or Charlie Atkinson coming in to replace him.

What a douche that guy is. Absolutely hates Marcus and Quins to a ridiculous extent.

He also wants Dingwall to start with Cokanasiga and Northmore others he name checks. Thacker on the bench. Laughable.

I just literally said the same in the England thread. You could feel his sheer disgust for Smith.

This is what Warburton was saying. They stick too rigidly to pre-planned tactics and don't play heads up rugby. It was one of the most misleading statements by Jones when he said he wanted England to play heads up rugby. We haven't looked like playing heads up rugby for years.

Ah, go easy on him, he must be pretty traumatised at the moment being Welsh.

(As he has been since the 70s).

Sometimes he does actually make some fair points although they get lost in the noise and attempts at controversy.

"If someone's not playing well, Jones isn't afraid to take them off"…………
