England Squad

Launchbury has been called up for Palmer, hurrar!

I actually jumped up from my chair and cheered. Maybe the future's bright after all... although I hope Palmer's alright, seems a good lad and a very good player.

Aye, pity it was him and not Botha as this just ensure's Botha's starting place :(

Still: It's great that Launchbury is getting exposure to the main squad. Hopefully he impresses and then gets called up in the EPS changes for the Six Nations (I still hate the EPS can only be changed by X people once/twice a year).

I get the feeling with 36 these days that he's never going to quite become the player he promised to be, entirely due to how badly he was managed by Cockril.

However, I will be happy to be wrong.

Its good to see Launchbury, i hope he impresses Lancaster as i am sure palmers days are numbered.

Happy about Launchbury! Lancaster's finally making the right decisions, but a bit too late!

If Lawes and Palmer are out, that pretty much means Launchbury is in, right? Bad news is that Botha will be in too!

I noticed that in the past it was 12T's defense that people criticised. I reckon that was because he never strung a few games together, and when he did, it was disrupted by one week flyhalf, the next inside center. But since joining Gloucester, it's been 12T's defense that has impressed me above all. His technique is good, and it's clear that Nigel Davies wants his centers getting in over the ball, because 12T's made some fantastic turnovers.

He's also great relief to have for Burns. One problem you may have with a maverick flyhalf is them getting caught in a ruck. But 12T is the best center in England to have to move into first receiver. His tactical kicking game is arguably better than Burns' is at the minute.

Not seen him involved in too many backline moves from Glos recently - but that's probably because we've had most of our first-choice backline injured and have played a different game to suit.

my prediction...

TOm Johnson will play.

and i will stick my head out and say ALex goode will play instead of mike brown, as Alex goode offers a little more then brown in terms of passing and kicking.

Aye, I reckon so too.
I wonder if we'll field a "1st XV" side for Fiji, seeing as it's first up. You'd normally expect a few new partnerships etc. in that match but with it being first maybe they'll use it to blow the cobwebs off of the first XV in preparation for the next few matches.

I think we could see something like:

1. Marler
2. Youngs
3. Cole
4. Botha
5. Parling
6. Johnson
7. Robshaw
8. Waldrom
9. Care
10. Flood
11. Monye
12. Barritt
13. Tuilagi
14. Ashton
15. Goode

16. Paice
17. Vunipola
18. Wilson
19. Robson
20. Dowson
21. Youngs
22. Farrell
23. Brown

Not necessarily what I'd select, but I reckon that's what they'll go for.

i still not convinced why Dowson still gets in the EPS, i have to confess i not seen much of him but he only in the squad because of his versatility?

i think it is a shame about armitage, but definitely think robshaw makes a good captain. some one tell me if i am wrong, i heard chris ashton is out because of injury?

Re: Dowson - Don't care so long as he's not in a Saints shirt. Been an utter donkey this season.

Forgot about that,
He's out because he's suspended.
Sharples on that wing then.

Yeah, it was for a clumsy tackle of Artemyev in the Saracens vs Saints game the other week. I think he just misses the Fiji test.

England 23 named: Launchbury and Vunipola both included! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/20200939

If this were a game against the big southern 3 I'd be jumping for joy at the news that Botha has been released to play for Sarries this weekend, but as its a game I believe we can win comfortably I'm actually more worried about the guys who could get injured as a result of playing this game: The first guy we cannot afford to lose is Cole, I'd rather he gets put on the bench and only plays a bit. In my view he's currently our most important, dare I say it best player. I'm also worried at the thought of Tuilagi getting injured, especially with Joseph out, or any of the three lock forwards, not least because two of them are wasps.

Delighted for Joe (launchbury), he's top class fro Wasps and has all the ability to be world class. I expect him to start on the bench which will give us a great deal of versatility.

From this 23 I expect to see:

1.Vunipola
2.Youngs
3.Cole
4.Palmer
5.Parling
6.Johnson
7.Robshaw
8.Waldrom

9.Care
10.Flood
11.Sharples
12.Barritt
13.Tuilagi
14.Monye
15.Goode

16.Marler
17.Wilson
18.Paice
19.Launchbury
20.Wood
21.Youngs
22.Farrell
23.Brown

I can see that Marler might start, but if it was up to me I'd throw Vunipola straight in there; I think he'll do great and Fiji at Twickenham in the autumn internationals is a perfect way to be blooded and to play "baggage-free" - excuse the cliche.

On the basis of recent call ups - this is my starting team for NZ
1. Vunipola
2. Marler
3. Cole
4. Lawes
5. Parling
6. Wood
8. Morgan
7. Robshaw
9. Care
10. Flood
11. Sharples
12. Twelvetrees
13. Manu
14. Ashton/Brown
15.Goode/Brown

Has Test rugby finally introduced the extra prop on the bench?
