England Six Nations squad 2022

No it's not. But contingency planning / continuity / bench options are a big part of his role. Given the chance there's no reason why Robson (clots notwithstanding) or Spencer couldn't have become perfectly functional at this level, leaving JVP, Quirke and Randall to develop at their own pace. Instead it looks like we're skipping a generation and may need to fast track.
100%. Had Robson been given a chance we would have now been arguing experience vs youth, youngs and Robson starting big games and Quirke/Randll for traing squads and tier 2 games to prep the contingancy instead of now. Having good players with no international experience and young talented playeds being pushed straight to international without enough experience.

I do think Quirke and Randall can handle it but its not the best way to go about it from an experience international coach.

Whilst Youngs has the experience, can we really say that counts for anything? Generally when you talk about wanting experience it's related to remaining cool under pressure and making the right choices. Youngs doesn't even do that a lot of the time on top of his generally poor basics. At best he is our best box-kicking SH, largely because he does it all the bloody time. I think experience should only count for something when a player is showing the positive results of lots of experience. If they are highly experienced but not playing like it, it should count for nothing.

It's not on Jones to "develop" the younger SH's but it is his job to expose other SHs to international games. He has woefully failed in this role and it isn't like he hasn't had the options. Outside Youngs we have had Care, Robson, Simpson, Spencer and Wiggy as alternatives and he binned every single on off after about a year tops. Our SH problem isn't due to a lack of good Shs, it's due to Jones stubbornness and **** knows what going through his head where he has decided that going to a world cup with only 1 SH with international experience is a good thing.

If Youngs gets injured we have the choice between bringing in really old SHs at the very end of their career or bringing in extremely young SHs, both of whom would have single digit or low double digit caps. This is a problem entirely created by Jones, he has not been forced into this position.

This experience problem goes away to f we start the Quins 8,9 10 combo.

It wouldn't be the worst decision ever. Apart from the endless pointless box kicks, Youngs is not only too slow but he mostly fires passes at heads, feet and behind players. I really don't think he's a very good scrum half at all.

His job is to pass and he doesn't do that very well, like a prop who can't scrimmage (cough Mako, cough).

I mean you would think Barney the dinosaur would be a england international if he was wearing a Quins shirt TBF
I mean if he won the prem that would be justified imo.

I'll admit I'm biased but it's mainly I think Youngs is trash.

Quins wise id only have the lads we've got in the squad now playing, but adding Collier, Walker, Wev, Kenningham, Northmore, Lynagh and Murley to the watch list based on past form. I don't think that's all to out there tbh

I wouldn't be surprised to see Manu on the bench,
Being out with a hamstring issue means his cardio will have taken a spanking

If Eddie picks Heyes as traveling reserve and Cole is injured for Tigers I'm going to support Ireland for the rest of the competition

Not bad aside from Young's and no out and out winger tbh

I do worry about our depth at winger currently. May is injured and getting on, Watson is injured and approaching 30 and we can't really rely on Nowell. Radwan needs to leave Newcastle IMO, I've barely heard his name mentioned this season. Could be time to look at the likes of OHC?

Also forgot to mention the demise of Cokanasigna's Test chances.

Yeah it's difficult. You can just hear the groans if Nowell gets into a foot race with LRZ or Adams.

Watson's only just about to turn 28 so hopefully a few good years left once he returns.

Like Radwan, Thorley was going to be the next big thing at one point. Still time for both to come good, maybe at different clubs. Lynagh has his flaws but is a good finisher. Sleightholme was being talked up but that's all gone a bit quiet. OHC, why not? Could McConnochie have done an interim job?

In the little I've seen of him I've been quite impressed by Reed at Sharks. Not advocating him for an Eng call up yet, but seems to have something.

Warburton in the Times arguing for Itoje to move to 6. Then again I don't think it was so long ago he was saying that Undercurry was potentially the best combination in the world.
