I reckon Gustard will get the call ahead of Sanderson IMO.

Just due to the previous link.

I prefer Gustard to Sanderson (reckon I'm in the minority).

Well Shaun Edwards won't be joining. He's signed a new deal with Wales.

How many games did Eddie coach for the Stormers?

In all seriousness sounds like the nail in coffin for that one either Jones didn't want him or they didn't pay enough.

Surely it'd be both?
One is a forwards the other is a defence coach.
Don't want to get into a Farrell situation where you're getting one guy to cover several things even though they're only good at one

Saracens said they will not let both go.

I would like the idea of

Borthwick - Lineout/forwards
Rowntree/West - Scrum
A player like Hill or smith later - Breakdown
Gustard- Defence.

Sanderson, Gustard etc just don't make sense to me.

Presumably Jones will be more of a big picture man, mainly leaving the actual coaching to others. Why on earth would a proven top level operator totally surround himself with international greenhorns - just doesn't make sense, especially when budget's not an issue. In my book Borthwick, with a very narrow brief, is the most likely of those and he's only done 5 minutes with Japan. Otherwise I won't be surprised to hear a Kiwi accent or 2.

Jones is known for being a very hands on coach.

For both good and bad reasons.

So fully expect him to be involved.

Saracens said they will not let both go.

And Stormers said they wouldn't let go of Jones; Wasps said they wouldn't let go of Edwards; Saracens said they wouldn't let go of Farrell etc etc.
I'd take it more as a request / bargaining position; or possibly just a "we won't let both go mid-season", come June and all bets are off.

We need at least one top quality coach to work for Eddie, and my money would be on a certain Wayne Smith coming across for September.

Ah, right; seems a little pedantic though, I suggested September, whereas a year takes him to November.

I'd assumed Tigs Man was referring something I'd missed.

He said he honestly doesn't think he would be able to coach a team that could threaten to beat NZ. And has said that although money might turn his head he is happy not to coach another international team other than NZ.

I just can't see him now leaving NZ to coach a international team.

1) Becuase of the above
2) Would you want a coach who might not have the desire to beat the best team in the world?

That was in relation to being head coach - he was also happy (and had agreed) to work under Mallett for England 4 years ago (which is when he said he wouldn't want to lead a team against the ABs).

I can, it would be the final step before taking the ABs' head coach role.

He actually said he couldn't coach against NZ this year a couple months ago.

4 years ago is a long time for things to change Him and Mallet were friends.

Is he friends with Eddie?

He won't leave NZ for England.

Fair enough - didn't know he'd said it more explicitly, or more recently.

As for the rest - all opinion surely

Why do you think he'd prefer Gustard over Sanderson, Tigs?

That recent Guardian article made Sanderson and Jones out as quite close.

I, too, would expect Jones to go for Sanderson over Gustard.

If the opposite were the case then maybe it'd be because Eddie wanted a SH forwards coach because that's what he knows?

Both have followed a similar route with Jones.

I just feel that Jones will want more specialized forwards coaches.

And I reckon Gustard previous session as a England coach (with Baxter and Lancaster) abit against a Argentina B team with an England Saxons pretty much, but he still has had experience with the likes of Thomas, Kvesic, Eastmond, Joesph, Yarde etc. will help.

He might want both who knows just my 2 cents.
