**** him.

I hope they change the eligibility rules before November (he's eligible after the summer tours).
Would also love Fiji to turn their nose up to him, say they've got people who put everything into earning a Fiji spot and they don't want someone who would throw away a RWC spot like that, and Hughes never gets to play international rugby.

Don't get me wrong, I love him as a player, but I have zero time for him.

I just want England to win things . If he plays for us the chances are improved

England is an international side, not a club.
How much have we ripped Ireland and Scotland in the past?
This is no better than what they've done with foreign players - counting down the seconds until they're eligible to cap them.
**** that.

I want England to win, but not like this

Personally I feel England should pick English unless there is less than 3 players who play that position as there first choice for Club.

Or have circumstances like Ewers etc.

Well we all do but if the teams full of blokes you have only lived here 3 years and ones with English grannys then its hardly an England team then is it?

It would never be a team full though . Only likely to be a player here or there to be honest

Everyone has one person qualified through the residency rule. Hughes will be ours ..... Can we beat a thought for Wales here theirs is Cuthbert

Hughes wishes he could be English like Vunipola.

It's not like we're short of quality at 8 though. Bill and Ben when fit and firing are a great one-two punch together and individually top 5 in the world candidates for their position.

The eligibility rule has become a bit of a joke right now, Italy are apparently advertising for South African second rows to come over and play for them so they'll be eligible for the next World Cup. I'd rather England grow organically personally.

Really? they are already taking about O'Connor and his English gran, the lads only just walked off a plane only played a few games and already they are lining him up for England, Hughes has been touted for England since at last season. Its a worrying trend to be honest. It reminds me of Scotland and a player called Brendan Laney, who they picked to play in an internation before he even landed in Scotland.

To be fair I've barely heard anyone mention him WRT England. Think BT mentioned that he's eligible, but nothing more than that.
Only really on here, and even then just from Tigers fans.

Agree with the rest of the comment though. Very worrying trend, and "everyone else does it" is not a valid excuse for me.

I don't really care who we pick as long as we win and aren't breaking the rules. The rules should be changed but until they are, crack on - and it's certainly not a change for England to be picking these sort of players.

Irony?

I'm not sure I like a definition of nationality that says Ewers isn't English tbh.

TBF with O'Connor we currently only have 2 regular starting AP true Opensides and one has the reputation of being a bit of a Tom Croft with injuries.

Still it is only two players, although one is in a position we are already looking fairly strong.

Will Greenwood in the Telegraph and Flatman on ITV4 highlights show.

Yes this is what I'm talking about . I don't particularly agree with the rules but until they are changed then use them to your advantage

I don't see how it is a growing trend with England TBH.

It is like one/two players being quoted who could be said to be "International Mercs". It isn't doing a Scotland.

2 people mentioning he's a good player and is EQ is hardly anything really . I mean Flatman has talked about Sam James playing for England ! He's hardly out of nappies and up to 4 weeks ago Olyy didn't even know him lol

I'm cooling on the O'Connor bandwagon ATM.

Now I'm riding the Mike Williams band wagon.

And none of them are Riki Flutey.

I mean, fair dos to anyone who says any is too many, because that's a reasonable position, but it isn't new nor are the proportions particularly out of whack with where we've been before.

Tbh, I'd change international eligibility to include being asked "Did you grow up dreaming of playing for this country" while hooked up to a lie detector...
