Fair point. You sometimes don't consider the difficulty of balancing morale in the camp when making changes to the squad. Make too many changes and you risk upsetting squad mates and friends of those dropped. Make too few changes, and you risk being seen as having your favourites and making barriers to form players. Getting that balance right when having to lead a coaching team and a 30+ man squad, all with differing opinions to you on who should be around, must be quite the task.
It's perhaps particularly difficult for England/France, who have the biggest player pools. With more depth comes more 50/50 calls and more opportunity to disappoint your coaches and players. I wonder whether this is partly why France and England are the two teams with the biggest problems with squad discontent in recent history.
