I personally think the key areas to look at are:

2
5
6
7
10 (Slade, Ford, Farrell, Cipriani) Pick one!
12

Pretty much the spine of the team!

I'd like to see a more powerful winger in and around the squad, someone like Roko at Bath or Yarde from Quins. Both current wingers have played well but can be a bit lightweight.

Not saying I'd drop them, but feel with only ever look at a plan A, when we should consider B, C and D as well.

Whats peoples thoughts on the performances of

Lawes, Cole and Marler?

Below par. Cole looks knackered and our refusal to use Davy Wilson is odd. I'm dubious to to Marler's fitness. Lawes has always blown a bit hot and cold in my mind, and was blowing cold for sure during his time on the pitch. Attwood would have been better.

All three have strong parts to play in the future though.

Maybe they'll discovered tied up in some warehouse and we'll learn that they'd been replaced by ringers paid to sabotage England. It is as comprehensible an explanation of what happened to them as any given the dip in their form, Marler first and foremost.

Slightly more realistic is to wonder just went on in Denver. We heard a lot about how hard it was; maybe it was too hard. Most of the forwards played like tired men all summer.

Woodward's a mentallist who hasn't been involved in the game for, what, ten years? Jones has got a lot of stock from the Saffa Slaying, but I'm not convinced. We could probably do worse, but I don't think that's who I want.

If Wayne Smith would like to work with Rob Baxter, that might be perfect. Or he can work with Rennie. One of those two. Sorry Chiefs fans everywhere, I wanna burgle at least some of you.

Idle question - if you could steal any one centre in all of rugby to partner Joseph, who would it be?

Good article from Woodward for a change - most of his ones about selection are just, I would pick an attacking team and make Twickers go wild!

Woodward as performance director, not as coach.

Sonny Bill?

I really hope we use Hunter and Walshe too - some idiot journos are saying we should keep Lancaster because he knows the players, but why not use coaches who actually won something with those players and who understand rugby?

Nonu or SBW.
Someone to, even slightly, draw in the defenders. Joseph only needs half a gap to work with, so Nonu crashing into the line then offloading to Joseph would be lethal.

Roberts/Joseph Lions Dream Team!

The good thing about Lancaster is that any of the contenders would be an improvement!

Get Manu Tuilagi fit and accustomed to playing 12.

Alternatively give Tom Stephenson / Sam HIll a decent go.

I think we have the players...just need to get the right selection , the right tactics, the right coaches....and everyone on the same songsheet.

I'm just quoting this in case it all goes ***s up and we need to work out which fool tempted the wrath of fate.

Seriously though, yeah I don't believe he's good enough, but I do also believe it would be possible to be worse, this window aside it would be fairly easy, most of the candidates sound ok so far but... well... yeah.

Correct that Woodward has been out of the game, however he is someone that has and listens to ideas, will build a strong team to coach the players.

I honestly think there is no other option for performance director. He needs a wide brief to do what needs to be done.

I agree in principal with the foreign based player rule, however to avoid future similar issues we perhaps need to consider a wildcard system of two players for instance. Where their performance is of a high enough standard they can be considered.

Tuilagi doesn't distribute well enough. You need a player like Slade to act as a second play maker alongside Ford to create space and put our very danger back 3 and JJ into gaps.

Tuilagi for me is an impact player at 12/13 in last 20 to smash through tired tackles.

Is there now at least an agreement/inclination against having a 2nd kicking option on the inside and a big man on the outside?

very much more inclined towards the big man with decent hands on the inside, with the swift-of-feet outside him. Nice having Daly as a ready-made JJ replacement too, assuming he finally settles at 13.

No, as Australia just demonstrated.

Not sure I agree with that. Could Slade (has he ever played at 12?) realistically play with the likes of JJ or Daly outside him? If Ford were ever played as part of that trio, that would make for an all-too lightweight 10-12-13 combination.
