Out of interest, if he is dropped who do we think will or should replace him?

LCD and Taylor are obviously in the 'set up' right now. I know a lot of people here like George (ironic, considering the reason Hartley was banned).

I guess it would be Youngs first choice, then Webber then one of the above?

How soon do you think we might see an AP club make a move for Ellis Genge and Jack Lam?

Well if Burger retires after the world cup, which has been talked about quite a lot, then maybe we would make a move for Lam ?

I really like batty at bath, think he would add some good physicality off the bench.

I've never been fussed about George, in fact all the hookers around seem soooo average, shown by Hartley being the man in possession of the shirt before he head butted his way out of it lol

Tbh I was hoping before Hartley got banned that Tom Youngs would take his place anyway . He has been superior to Hartley lately . The number 1 thing Lancaster should be looking at is getting Youngs to create a bond between himself and Lawes and Launchbury or drop one of them and play Parling or Slater . There's nothing wrong with Youngs line out throwing at Leicester so to me it can only be poor understanding between the players

Lancaster has taken only two hookers on tour when he had a lot more room than a 31-man squad to work with. I assumed he'd take just two to this WC, probably Youngs and Webber now.

I've liked the little of Yeandle I've seen though.

Depends where he's throwing to. At Leicester he's probably more likely to throw front and middle, as they maul so much. England will probably want him to throw more to middle and back. His problem is that he usually overthrows rear jumpers and underthrows front. That suggests it's either his technique or timing (or both). He's also more likely to miss pressure throws, which are (obviously) more common at international level.

Also, how can his understanding still be poor? He's been in the England squad for three years now, has 22 caps, and Lawes has called the England lineout since autumn 2013. I could buy that excuse for LCD, but no one tries it with Webber, so why Youngs?

It's probably moot now anyway. If Lancaster sticks to his guns, then he's the best hooker of what's left. Unless LCD or George/Webber/Batty/Taylor having a storming three months, he's first pick. The rest are playing for the second spot.

---

This is if Lancaster drops Hartley. To be honest, given the wealth of mediocrity at hooker, I could understand if he didn't.

For me Youngs was the best we had before Hartleys recent disciplinary problem . His carrying would prove invaluable to England at the moment . The line out isn't horrendous when he's throwing it's just not as good as Hartleys

There are rumours that we are Lam and Eadie also what will happen to Varndell also Morgan might go.

Ellis Genge actually looks quite handy and has the best name in English sport...

I think I'd honestly chose Webber over Youngs. He's had a fairly gash season but he always performs in the white jersey IMO, has quietly very good in NZ.

I'd also love to see Taylor start this weekend and really give us a taste of what he can do.

An England side with Mako, Taylor, Cole, Launchbury, Kvesic and Binny would be disgustingly good at the breakdown.

as a Bath supporter I'm surprised, to say the least, by that statement

If Webber claimed the 2 jersey somehow, it wouldn't be the first time a player has gone into an England camp on the back of bad to abysmal domestic form and played like a completely different man.

Who would you pick with both on top form?

It's tricky, on form they are actually both pretty similar - can distribute well enough, run hard, acceptable darts and decent scrummagers and a high workrate.

Difficult to say without seeing Youngs in a system which encourages him to distibute, but if he can do it consistently (and he should be able to, being a glorified centre) then Youngs, if he couldn't, then it's horses for courses.

In other news, apparently Wales are looking at Moriarty for the world cup.

Was bound to happen, I think he may end up playing for them tbh.

I'd have to go for Youngs. Even with Webber on form, I think Youngs's contributions ball in hand are significantly better, and that's something England lack a bit.

I like Webber over the ball, although he doesn't do it as much for England
