England 6 Nation squad 2024

That's been known since November, tbf - just a load of clickbait journalists have taken his interview on the Sale youtube channel today and sensationalised it for headlines

"TOM CURRY MIGHT NEED METAL HIP" - no, that was on option that was floated in November and wasn't needed.
He had successful surgery, is currently rehabbing, and there's no indication he won't make a full recovery as it stands

Let's hope so.

But this sounds fairly major and he needs to get back to at least where he was, not 95 or 97% there. I'm sure he'll be in the best possible hands.

Sounds like the kind of damage Andy Murray had to his hip, but he eventually had to have a resurfacing operation, as the original operation (s) didn't fix the problem. Whether he ever comes back 100% remains to be seen.

Tennis players who have had hip operations are numerous and none of them have come back to the level they were before. You only have to look at how Murray's level post 2019 has been compared to 2017 when the issue first arose. Tom will most likely have to adapt his game even if he does manage to return, but expectations will have to be tempered. Especially that speed to the ruck, so crucial to his game. That's the thing I noticed about Murray on court, he used to be so fast side to side and getting to drop shots, but now he's lost that half a step.

Curry could pile on the pounds and focus on 8 if he lost his speed.

Although a 90% fit curry is still miles ahead of a lot of English flankers.

Well we've already got an open side playing 8 much better than I think Curry ever could. And we have some exciting emerging specialist options too.

True. But that wouldn't be good enough for the national team where you need to be right on it. A fit Earl or Underhill would trump 90% T Curry, as probably B Curry would do, before you even think of coming men like Pearson and Pepper.

A fit and firing T Curry is worth his place, but an under par version just wouldn't be. We all wish him well in his recovery but pro sport is a brutal place where you're quickly yesterday's fish and chip paper.

I think we have to be brutal with players, if they can't perform, they get dropped. It was what Jones did well originally before favouritism kicked in. I rate curry but ultimately there is no room for sentiment. If his unfortunate circumstance leads to him not performing at the required level, he needs to be dropped. We aren't short on potential skilled flankers.

The key is for him to do as he's doing...don't rush it. Take his time, do the required physio and rehab and get back to playing for Sale initially without any aspirations for England.

Lawrence, Manu, Martin and LCD all back in full training and expected to be in contention for Scotland

Be interesting to see what happens with both Manu and Lawrence back, either being back would/should waltz back into the 12 shirt - Lawrence should absolutely be ahead of Manu (who shouldn't really be in the EPS considering his fragility and him being very likely to be going to France at the end of the season - form this season was actually decent) but I wouldn't be surprised to see 12. Manu, 23. Lawrence

Martin straight in to the starting XV for me, but think he'll likely go to 19

LCD there on name alone, form hasn't been good enough (especially with Langdon snubbed), Dan should keep the 16 shirt, especially with England reserve hooker minutes so hard to come by (especially especially now our captain is our hooker)

I'm not saying it's viable or a good long term option but I wouldn't be against having a Quick Look at centre pairing of OL & Manu, it's certainly physical, maybe ball doesn't reach the wingers, then again with multiple ball players it doesn't seem to happen too frequently anyway.

Agree...but I really hope Lawrence stays at 13..where he's outstanding for Bath...
Move Slade to 12 if we have to...or play blooming Ojomoh as a team combo.

Martin...won't have the Match fitness...maybe bench for Scotland. But he's the grunt lock we're missing in there.
Have to admit I'm a fan of Alex Coles aswell...he can develop in a very good lock forward. We are building a group of athletic locks..Martin will compliment them well.

LCD should not overtake Theo Dan.
I'm disappointed Marcus Smith isn't available. I think the Wales game showed the strength and weaknesses of George Ford these days...

Agree with all that except LCD. This is the weekend of the A game and I'd rather see Dan get an hour in that than 9 minutes against Scotland.

Tough to predict as we don't know whether it's an entirely separate group or taken from the EPS too - and if it is taken from the EPS there's going to be some players who are going to have to stay with the squad as travelling reserves (i.e. front rowers - so no Obano)

I have completely forgotten every premiership player because we've had like two weeks off, but off the top of my head something like:

1. Baxter
2. Langdon
3. Painter
4. Tuima
5. Tizard
6. Pepper
7. Curry (c)
8. Barbeary
9. Randall
10. Skinner
11. OHC
12. Kelly
13. Ojomoh
14. Roebuck/Radwan
15. Carpenter/Hodge

Picked Kelly and Ojomoh together because they've both played 12 and 13 this season, but could drop in Beard from the seniors - got the Sarries and Gloucester 12s I'd love to see more of as well - all 13s in the seniors and all 12s in the A game!

If they are looking to use it to get game time into EPS guys then Furbank at 15 as well - but would rather Carpenter or Hodge

Dual opensides because I love opensides and I can't think of any 6s - Maybe Reid? Wouldn't mind seeing Pearson get some game time as well, for me he's a 6

Would love to see Mercer involved but feel like bridges are burned as it's SB picking players not the Gloucester coaches

I'd be really surprised if we saw an entire A squad called up rather than just a few to supplement the EPS. I think the fact they don't seem to be getting a call up til next week rather than this week support that's. If it was an entirely new squad they'd want them getting more than 1 week together.

I'm expecting we're just gonna see around 10 players called up to join the EPS. Think the England team will travel to Scotland with the usual 23 + 2 TRs rather than taking loads of TRs and preventing them from playing in the A game. It's the system that's been used for every 6N prior to this one so clearly isn't actually that much of a risk.

In the past the the 2 TRs have tended to be a utility forward (lock/back row cover) and a utility(ish) back so I imagine it'll be the same for this game.

With that in mind I expect to see:
Marler, Genge, George, LCD, Stuart, Cole, Itoje, Chessum, Martin, Coles, Roots, Underhill, Earl, CCS, Mitchell, Care, Ford, Smith, Lawrence, Slade, Tuilagi, Daly, Freeman, Feyi-Waboso and Steward travel to Scotland leaving an A team of something like:

1. Obano
2. Dan
3. Heyes
4. Ewels
5. Call Up
6. Pearson
7. Curry
8. Dombrandt
9. Spencer
10. Call Up
11. Muir
12. Dingwall
13. Beard
14. Roebuck
15. Furbank

16. Blamire
17. Call Up
18. Call Up
19. Call Up
20. Call Up
21. Call Up

22. Ojomoh
23. Call Up

+ 2 TR Call Ups

Yeah that's fair - I do think we'll see an all new front row though, because they're specialist positions they'll need to take reserve props/hooker in case someone pulls out in the warmup
