England 2024/25

Revolt against Sweeney and Ilube gathering pace.

Enough support to force a Special General Meeting before the end of February. As I understand it that'll be be a motion of no confidence in Ilube with clubs also voting on a resolution to force the RFU board to dismiss Sweeney.

More chaos is just what the English game needs.
Will put of many possible replacements for Borthwick.

England rugby fans "RFU is run by amateurs old-boys in blazers, 57 old farts and all that - we must fire them and hire professionals"
Also England rugby fans "RFU is run by professional CEOs who mostly hit their assigned targets, but don't have a background in rugby - we must fire them and hire amateurs"

The thing is, you can be professional AND have integrity.

Someone at that level is more than wealthy enough to forego bonuses if they choose to do so.

A truly great leader would say 'instead of paying massive bonuses to executives, let's put that money to good use' by not making redundancies and investing in the sport itself.

Obviously that is incredibly rare, but they do exist.

Someone running the RFU is not a captain of industry - they should be mission driven not compensation driven.

People would probably be happier if the RFU explained how Sweeney hit 100% on financial performance. Why the England results were blended, and how scoring 0 on the womens game, the mens community game and on inclusion resulted in the bonuses.

The community clubs aren't just upset over the bonuses it's a number of factors.

That changed the day the game went professional unfortunately.

While Sweeney's made mistakes, his targets and pay have been set by the Board and Remuneration Committee. They should be drawing most of the anger.

Bonuses and redundancies isn't a good look but who's to say that without Sweeney's interventions it wouldn't have been 70 redundancies not 40? We outsiders can only assume, but we simply don't know. Of course if the workforce was bloated in the first place the blame lies at his door too….

This is just getting boring now - every single year pre Six-Nations we get absolutely hammered by injuries. It's an awful thing to say but given the choice I would honestly sack off the 6N. I just can't get enthused about another year of 3 wins being the probable limit of our expectations. It's just depressing. I'm not excited one little bit about Ireland and France in the first two games, we never start the Six Nations well and we've got the two best teams first up, then Scotland. We're going to go 0/3 in the first 3 games, I'm calling it now.
That is the worst take I have ever heard, cant call yourself a fan if your not willing to stick by the team in bad times as well as good.

Ok I clicked....

I confess I haven't seen a huge amount of Tom De Glanville or maybe watched him closely. Is he someone who could step up?

Id certainly be looking at Carpenter for the squad but I do think Steward will start.

De Glanville is probably the closest to Furbank in playing style, I'm just not sure he's got the quality to be a test player

Given the sequence of games, I can't really see anyone other than Steward getting picked unless it's Marcus Smith out of position (which I don't want to see).

I agree it's between Steward and Smith...but I'd be happy to see them give Carpenter a run out aswell.

Isn't Tyrone Green eligible soon...;)🤔

I like Carpenter too but a debut in Dublin would be a big ask for a fullback.

I think Borthwick will go for Steward as the 'safe' option and TBH, I'd probably do the same.
