I have to say that in both innings the bowlers where the key to success. Quiet happy to see Hugues and Agar score plenty of runs. At this stage the series can go either way where i expected a bit of england dominance.

Meanwhile, in the Caribbean, in the final of tri-nations series...

Mahendra. Singh. Dhoni.

He does it again. This guy is just something extraordinary.

stayed up last night, thought i'd watch us bowl for a bit... nek minnut. incredible debut innings by Agar

What a superb Test. We looked to have it won when they were 9 down, then losing when they needed 20 to get at lunch but super Jimmy Anderson gets the winning wicket.

Phew

It was indeed a very good test match. Highlights for me was the first innings of australia with Agar making his appearance on the test cricket circuit. England batted very well during their second session. Still not sure if Broad was out or not but the way he react was quiet arrogant. Australia had a long way to trail and lost quickly some wickets. they did gave it a very good fight. Can't wait for the second testmatch :)

It was great match, disappointing not to get the job done after such a gutsy 10th wicket stand.

I'd say the same thing if Australia had won, what is everyone's view on the DRS? I ask this because this test has changed my view on it. I used to think the BCCI were idiots for refusing to use it, but regardless of the result the DRS has been controversial in this match.

The argument is that Cook is using it more efficiently and sure, Watson and Clarke wasted our referrals when they were clearly out. Watson was plumb and Clarke nicked it.

My argument is that a test match should not be as influenced as it was because a captain can use a computer system more efficiently, it should be about the more skilful team winning. Umpire's calls have never been 100% accurate, they do their best and sometimes they go in your favour, sometimes they don't, but over time the good ones and the bad ones even out. I think test cricket should go back to a system where the umpire can choose to review run outs and stumpings, and that's it.

I lie nearly all of the system, its learning when to refer and trusting your bowler/batting partner when they suggest a referral. My big gripe is this "Umpires Call" part on balls hitting the stumps, depending on what the decision is suddenly the ball hitting the stumps is not out??

I dont get it, if the ball flicks the stump by the tiniest of margins and the bail drops, you're still out bowled

First of all, you shouldn't lie. It's bad :p

Secondly, the system is, I assume, 99% accurate, so by giving 'umpires call', when there may be the slightest variance from the 'projected trajectory' (eg a gust of wind) which could, possibly, make the ball differ from it's path. It's at that point that the 'umpires call' is used.

Hope that made sense, it did when the voices in my head told me.

yeah that's almost unheard of, 311 in 40 overs... I've never seen anyone come close. even if he faced every ball of that 40 overs, that's a strike rate of 129.
I've played club cricket for over 15 years, have come up against former first class players etc. I've never seen anything like it.

I don't want to take anything away from this bloke as it's a top effort in itself to be out there for that long but it had to be on a fairly small ground facing a pedestrian bowling attack. the 53 boundaries also helps that argument.

The idea is that the system is only to get rid of the shockers. A ball flicking the stumps is not a shocker.

What are the Aussies opinion on Mickey Arthur? He's now suing the Australian Cricket Council for unfair dismissal based on race...

It would've made more sense if he sued them based on nationality...

Second test and England really kicked off. Their second innings was/ is amazing. i really don't see Aus coming back here.
Pity Pietersen is still a bit out of shape.

I really can grow to love the phrase "England lead Australia by 566 Runs"

Root batted like a dream, he was careful, determined and when he played his shots he looked elegant. I will probably bet that in all his future innings, of which there will be many, he wont bat as well as he batted today. Withought getting too ahead of myself surely its now a case of when we win this test rather than if.

When looking at this Second Test and attempting to make sense of what appeared to be an annihilation 3 letters and 3 numbers go a heck of a long way to doing so ; 180 and DRS.

One will be talked about as one of the great innings of the modern era by an Englishman that took the prospect of a result, from an Australian perspective, from difficult to downright impossible, and the other is a system that has proven controversial and has been more bamboozling to the Australians than a Shane Warne flipper.

Photo album from day 1 of this test. Had such a great day, good cricket, a superb century and the crowd were in great voice, including top banter between the Enland fans and the Aussie fanatics. Best song battle was;

England fans : You all live in a convict colony, a convict colony, a convict colony
Aussie Fanatics: You all live in a s**t economy, a s**t ecomony, a s**t economy.
