[COVID-19] General Discussion

Last updated yesterday, apart from daily hospital admissions which is still showing from 6 July.

Sturgeon announcing face coverings to continue when Scotland's restrictions are lifted on Monday. A sensible leader, which England do not have.

Yeah Boris left an open goal at her mercy really. Wearing a mask causes no economic damage and gives peace of mind to those more vulnerable - it's such a no brainer.

Well our work has done a U turn on getting us back into the office on Monday. Delaying it until further notice. illness in our department with two off sick with Covid. One caught it attending the semi last week just before his first jab.

A few younger adults I have spoken to are feeling a lot of resentment towards the Government. Being made to stay at home and follow restrictions for the best part of 18 months in order to protect older and more vulnerable people and the Government is now letting the virus rip through them and everyone else who is yet to be vaccinated. Many people in their 40's still haven't had a second jab and have caught the virus in between jabs and so before having full protection.

Yep, at our workplace we have a lot of under 40 year olds - I estimate about half the office is. Ok this Government have washed their hands of responsibility come Monday, but it doesn't mean individual employers don't still have a duty of care to their employees. If only 52% have been double jabbed so far why bring people using back to the offices until everyone has or bring back people gradually. There is no rush IMO if the same work can be done at home.

Bojo's Government's messaging has been woeful since they announced the delay last month, just when it needs it to be clear.

Despite pushing us to get to 50% occupancy last October my workplace caught a lot of backlash and have basically said nothing will change until September this time around.

All because he wanted to look good for a India trade deal summit.
Also I read in the ST from a source in Whitehall that Modi was threatening to delay or withhold vaccines made in India to the UK. Will we ever know the true/full story? Just have to live with the consequences that 99% of current cases are the Delta variant. It would likely have come anyway, but at least 500 cases according to PHE were brought in April before India was out on the red list.

The same mistakes from last year being made and still a public enquiry is delayed until next Spring.

Yeah its less of would of we got the Delta variant, my new boss' parents are flying back out to India today (I have no idea how long they've been visiting) just less growth in initial phases and therefore less growth overall whilst due to further along vaccination program.

He essentially put international trade and 'Global Britain' ahead of public health which ultimately cost lives. His position should have been untenable at that point.
Global Britain - that means turning our backs on the EU; and any nation requiring foreign aid... and not with TOO nasty a regime at the top... Oh, and not Biden's USA...

To the empire!

Daily Cases above 50,000 and we haven't even got to Monday yet. Daily Admissions to hospital above 700 as of 12 July. So those figures haven't caught up yet. Scary.

Another vaccination centre has opened up by me so I've managed to knock two weeks off my 2nd jab date

Going like hot-cakes: when I loaded the site they had am and pm for both days next weekend, by the time I'd quickly checked the calendar on my phone every slot had gone,
Luckily managed to get in the weekend after

Don't think this has been posted here yet.

yep pretty much echoing what this article is saying.
