[COVID-19] General Discussion

Just some info I've had. My mum (65 in 6days) and her partner (70) went for his first jab in London and they asked if she could have it too on the off chance they said yes, which they did. However, my mum has a friend in Anglesey who is in her 80s who only just got her first jab this week and the same friend knows many people in her age bracket who haven't yet been vaccinated. I know this is mainly hearsay and that devolved administrations are in charge of their own vaccine programs, but it's not good when London/south east England have vaccines to spare and yet 80 year olds in Wales are struggling to be vaccinated. Hoping there is a bit more coordination between governments and the Tories aren't just saying, well you wanted to be in charge so here you go, no help from us.
My dad went for his jab on Friday with my mum. My mum who is also in her 70s asked if she could have hers, but they said no. So yeah looks like there is inconsistencies.

Why has this irked you? If the vaccine roll out goes well then I see no reason as to why one would be pessemistic?
Because we won't have vaccinated everyone by the summer and bringing back variants back from other countries that haven't either.

Bojo being "optimistic" is just a death knell to anything he predicts. It's the lack of learning from his past mistakes that irks me. He should just STFU.

So he already killed hope for Easter which he originally said when this lockdown started.

Wasn't the Easter target the easing of restrictions, not everything back to normal?
That was mid Feb originally. Don't think he said things back to normal and don't mean to imply it but there was talk about having the celebrations we couldn't have at Christmas...that some did anyway.

Anyone else coming around to the idea that the "South African" variant is actually B.1.1.7 with the E484K mutation? AKA the Boris Mutuation!

Leaving a bad taste in my mouth seeing von der leyen, say Britain has compromised it's vaccine rollout.
Same reason when Fauci did, trying to take pressure from their own necks despite the risk of encouraging vaccine scepticism
Really disappointed with VDL so far. The Commission is probably the EU's greatest strength, under Junker it was always EU first politics second, VDL seems intent on playing stupid politics that don't concern her or the EU.

Oxford reporting 67% reduction in transmission and 76% from first does with no fall off in 12 week period.
Tentative reports showing little or no hospitalized with 2 dose in over 80s that received both doses.
Maybe our boffins are just right with roll out procedures.
