Well I was watching the Stormers vs Chiefs game and there is no doubt in my mind that Jantjes will not play the rest of the S14 or be part of the Lions Test series. This is pending official news but a very obvious brake to the shin area, horrific to see his leg flop around like that.
Injuries like that will keep him out of action for about 6 months. Hopefully there are no complications and he makes a full recovery ASAP.

Will this see Terblanche be named fullback for the Lions series? I think so.

You know what, this is getting bloody ridiculous.
I hope he recovers well, but that's definitely a broken leg, and this new Tyger guy looks like a 16 year old who has just been thrown into a test match.
<_<

Is it me or is PdV being forced against his will to name South Africa's strongest team (as opposed to what he thinks is South Africa's strongest team) due to awful injuries?

Pretty much yes

Brace yourself Lions, "The strongest Springbok team" will look like this:

Props: overweight bar bouncing bullies

Hookers: the type you get on the street coners (male type)

Locks: amateur lock picking thiefs

Loose forwards: retards that keep loosing the ball...well forward

Scrum half: overweight bar bouncing bullies that just want to scrum half of the time

Fly half: *cough* <strike>Earl Rose</strike> *double cough*

Centers: Wanabe amateur film stars that wants to be the centers of attention

Wings: Red Bull provides enough of that

Fullback: well I just don't know....

Pretty great team don't you agree?

I think we might see Jaque Fourie being played at fullback[/b]

Nah, not even PdV will do that. (Touch wood!)

Terblanche has been the best fullback in SA for 2 season now, it's gotta be him.

I swear, if PdV picks Kirchner... Me: :ar15firing5de: vs :prankster2: :pdV

Some official confirmation:

A broken leg has ended Conrad Jantjes's Super 14 and possibly his chances of facing the British & Irish Lions.

Jantjes sustained an ugly knock in only the 10th minute of the Stormers' match against the Chiefs. Coach Rassie Erasmus confirmed afterwards the Springbok fullback has broken his leg, and although the severity of the break is yet to be discovered, Jantjes will miss the next six weeks of rugby. This all but rules him out of the Test series against the Lions next month.[/b]

The rest of the article can be read here although they don't talk about Jantjes again

Thing is, PdV won't drop Jacobs at 13 (and rightly so) but needs to accommodate Fourie on his sheer class and form, so he will be picked at either wing or fullback where he is reasonably comfortable. But the likes of JP, Nokwe and Habana will mean him being chosen at 15 I think.<

Steyn? I've always felt there was a good argument for him at 15.
Does JPP not play at fullback too?

I don't understand why the commentators and so many people were going on about Jantjies /possibly/ missing out on the rest of the Super 14 or Lions tour, any one with -eyes- could see the leg break, the shin snapped in half for goodness sake, Janties was screaming at the top of his lungs.

In regards to Jaque Fourie, given that JDV is injured it might actually be a good idea to use Fourie and Jacobs as a center pairing, although I would still want JDV and Fourie paired up as a first choice.

Saw the footage on the news and it was pretty horrific.

Fourie has to be in the mix for the springboks, he is class! South Africa seems to have a lot of depth at the backline these days. But Terblanche has to be the front runner for the Boks 15 jersey. Despite his age, he's still showing all the right stuff you need in a fullback

ah really feel for the guy :/ horrific injuries are bad enough in normal circumstances, but especially so with a Lions Tour around the corner! The Irish Scrum-Half Tomas O'Leary broke his leg a few weeks ago against the Scarlets, so it's happening over here too

Fourie has been better than Jacobs in the S14 this season. When the Sharks and Lions played each other Fourie ran straight over him, twice! Besides that he's been more consistent than Jacobs which is amazing considering he is mostly on the losing team with the Lions.

I can understand people's calls for him to be in but 15 is not the place. He has a limited kicking game, which is exactly the opposite we need against the B&I Lions. They obviously gonna play a tight and tactical game with the squad they've chosen. They've set the tone, they gonna play the territory game, and our kicking game needs to be top notch. Having a 15 with a limited boot will force us to take the ball up into contact more, and we don't wanna get into a scrap with forwards they've chosen. To add to that, with the refs inconsistency on policing the rucks these days taking the ball into contact on the counter attack is a gamble.

Terblanche offers what we need for this tour. Repeatedly this season he's kept the Sharks in opposition territory thanks to clever kicks. It'll make them think twice before hoofing the ball skywards and ordering their fatties to chase. Which will happen if Fourie plays 15. It'll be something like the RWC2007 opening game [Argentina vs France] all over again.

Louis Ludik should be given a chance I feel, he has been in top form this season, but Terblanche might get the call-up if PdV is looking for experience or Kirchner if he is looking to go the quota way...

Doesnt Steyn play 15?

He has a good kicking game and hes not afraid to run at people.

Pienaar at 10

Fourie in the centre

Steyn at 15

I would be scared

I'm also hoping Francois Steyn is fit by the Lions tour. He would be my first choice at 15, even if Jantjes was fit. But thats my opinion.
