I always thought he was one of those born-on-holiday types?
Like his parents were in RSA for work and he was born there, like how Lee Dickson is "German" and Charlie Sharples is from "Hong Kong".

I'm sure Abendanon grew up, or at least went to school, in England.

Abendanon is a dutch passport holder (don't know whether it's a dual one), and lived in England since he was a nipper.
