Like SA Gold. Hard finding it in Bristol though, a couple of Wetherspoons had it but no more, nearest supermarket that does it is 3 miles away.

Go drink your whatever you English have these days. Pimms, I don't know.

what DO the English drink as far as beer ?
I know the favorite beer for French ppl is Leffe (rightfully so, excellent product for an industrial mainstream brand) statistically. Of course our local Kronenbourg, and 1664 notably must be second...

Anything, everything. Not many local lagers but hundreds and hundreds of breweries around the country making a variety of beers and ciders. Think we're the 3rd largest beer producing nation in Europe after Belgium and Germany.

I thought you were Welsh? :p

I normally just drink whatever lager is on tap (I can hear CAMRA supporter's dropping their pipes into their earthenware jugs of warm ale from here) - do often pick up a bottle of two of Ale when I'm shopping though.
Hobgoblin is a favourite, and I'm a fan of the stuff Iron Maiden produced (/put their name to): http://www.ironmaidenbeer.com/

I was talking about the UK as a whole, Captain Geography.

Is Leffe really more drunk than Kro? I'd have thought it was Kronenbourg and Heinekes, and then 1664 or Stella. I wouldn't have thought Leffe was even top 5...
Anyway, beer consumption in France is the lowest in Europe, we're more of a wine people.

I always drink 1664 when I'm in France - tastes approximately 15,000 times better over there than in the UK.

dunno if you're kidding about that, but it's obviously wrong. We do consume the most wine, but we're not nearly last in Europe for beer..

yeh it's alright honestly, it's good. Produced in Strasbourg of course, the German side : D that's why.
But the best beers are obviously Belgian beers...

What's the most common you'd say in the UK ? I can just google it up in a second but I'd rather have a human conversation on this thread.

Carling is the most popular I believe and it's horrible.

I think it's popularity is mainly down to people wanting pisswater to get drunk on, the same goes for Fosters.
A direct effect of binge drinking.

That's not what people drink in proper pubs (as opposed to bars) or restaurants though.
You'll most likely find Guiness and a decent quality lager like Staropramen in most real pubs.
And then a host of different types of ale, often local, and a cider/perry or two.

SA from the wood. (last place to sell it was the Royal Oak at the start of the Broadway walk), but think it's stopped now due to elf'n'safety.

Smooth - preferably extra cold. A nice pint of Black later on in the evening as well. Skull Attack (SA) is deadly.

45 was Brains only mistake. A continental larger? No, no, no.

alright yeh, that's within what I expected...any big local beer everybody drinks ? some famous English brand ? I'd imagine it's as you said local brews from town to town, but maybe there's an English equivalent to our Kro-1664 ?

And so Englishmen prefer the regular ale, Heineken-type taste right ? Not the fruity, rounder tastes (at times sweet) you'd find in continental Europe (Belgium, Germany) ?

I'd say ale and lager are probably equally popular.

Ale isn't really comparable with lager.
It's bit like trying to compare red meat with white meat, or dark and milk chocolate.

I was on an exchange in France this year and I went to a session on the beach, they were drinking wine, I called them gay and then they threw rum at me and I was happy enough, would of preferred beer though, they should have known to give the Mick beer.
