Briggs v Haye will be a good fight. I'm looking forward to that and hopefully on Dave
The BBC did have the chance to sign David Haye on his come back but didn't want to know after what happened with ordinary Harrison. They have had the chance to cover boxing and given how many good fighters there are in the UK at the moment they have dropped the ball quite badly

Well, TBF, given their current budget constriction, I think that's probably sensible.
Even having it on non-PPV-but-not-terrestrial could do wonders.
UFC has grown MASSIVELY in the UK since BT Sport bought the rights and show all the PPVs and fight nights as part of your regular subscription.

My thoughts on the weekend:
Firstly it's a bit laughable people saying Parker and Whyte are on the same level. The biggest name on Whyte's resime is Brian Minto - which at 28 years old isn't exactly stellar.
Takam was winning on the score cards against Povetkin during their fight until the 10th round KO, he got robbed of a victory with Mike Perez when Perez looked amazing (and was unlucky to get the draw), and he beat Tony Thompson comfortably (the guy who destroyed Price twice...). Franky he is a better fighter than anyone either of Deontay Wilder or Anthony Joshua has fought.
That said - that victory really showed some flaws in Parker's game. His defense was at times non-existant. He showed he has a great chin - but at times he was far too upright and was backing up from the punches instead of rolling with them. He was dominant off the double jab, but at times didn't use it at all. Most strangely, his fitness just disappeared during the 5th round. Not sure if he took a body shot or something - but it was bizarre.
People are saying Takam took his foot off the pedal, which may be true, but Parker did do very well landing plenty of body shots.
At 24 years old I think Parker is being rushed too quickly. Right now I think Joshua beats Parker (which is understandable considering the guy is three years ahead of Parker in his development). If I was the Parker team I'd happily wait another 18 months or so for a title shot.
Parker's next opponents will be interesting. It may be an IBF fight with Pulev - which is a very tough fight to call. On the other hand there is a rumor that Parker will fight Australian 40 year old Haumono - which for me would be a total waste of time even for a stay busy fight. He wouldn't learn anything - and he's beaten better Australian fighters already in Meehan and Toupu. I mean even someone like Alex Leapai would be a more respectable match. Maybe Big Daddy Browne once his drug suspension is over.
There are a bunch of guys that Parker could and should take before Joshua. Marius Wach would be a good fight and give him time against a bigger guy. Maybe someone like Dimetrenko. He never a few more fights against top 30 guys before fighting against Joshua.

Parkers next fight is AJ basically, he should wait but he won't.
Parker's next fight will of course not be AJ. On the possibility AJ has a unification fight - a title fight could well be 11 months away for Parker. For a 24 year old boxer it would be ridiculous waiting that long, and it would ensure he didn't develop at all in that time.
It is possible we will see Parker take fights which are simply tune-up fights that won't challenge him; and that is a problem - but I think there is no way Kevin Barry makes him inactive during that time.

There are lots of fights Parker can take but outside of NZ he's hardly a box office draw and he really needs to raise his profile to casual fans. Still think a fight with Dillian whyte would be a good move but it's one Parker has a real chance of losing so it is a risk but he does now need to start taking risks or he will just be another heavyweight prospect knocking out no bodies and although a clean record might look good on paper to get on he must take some risks.
Pretty much nailed it Nick, i'm not sure Takam is better than Whyte h2h but resume wise and experience wise Takam is well ahead of Whyte for sure.
I kind of think Joe must have been too excited and burned some energy off in the changing room because the first 4 rounds weren't especially high paced and Joe looked really fatigued in the 5th from not that many shots landed.
Takam although appearing to have more energy throughout was still outworked by Joe and I was quite surprised to see so many people favouring Takam tbh.
I would take a Dimitrenko fight for Joe over Haumono any day of the week!!!! I will be very disappointed if they go the Haumono route, Haumono would be an appropriate warm up for a Takam fight but not when you are looking at facing 6ft6+ giants. Dimitrenko has the size and experience, that could test Joe and hopefully Joe could improve a few things, at least he would get used to punching up any way.
To be honest I can very well see Parker vs Whyte being a fight Eddie Hearn would love to set up. Hearn has already said he wants Parker on his under-card around November - and it's very obvious that it would be a great move for Hearn if it was against Whyte. Whyte has signed with Sky and Matchroom, which would mean if Hearn managed to setup a Whyte vs Parker fight - and Whyte won - it would make Whyte the IBF mandatory fight. Joshua vs Whyte did very good numbers at the box office, and I'm sure Hearn would see it as a low risk mandatory title defense.
That said I don't see it being an especially helpful fight for Parker (however I see him winning it). Whyte is not an especially big heavyweight; and it doesn't offer much preparation for the Joshua fight. All it does it make him a slightly bigger name to a UK audience; which be be done fighting any number of guys like David Price or Derek Chisora. Price would be a good pick if Parker wants to prepare for a bigger guy.
Seems Parker will announce his next opponent on Tuesday for a July fight. I'm sure it will be Haumono. It's a very affordable fight for Duco, but frankly a pretty pointless one. The most entertaining thing that could happen is Dean Lonergan crapping himself with fury again at people streaming the fight.

How trash was Shannon Briggs opponent? I find it hard to believe that guy was a heavyweight let alone a professional boxer.
The guy might be pretty trash but at 6ft5.5" how could he not have been a heavyweight, funny thing is you are not the only person I have seen say this.
That bloke weighed 230lbs, what drugs are you's on lol? Shannon Briggs is just a big boy!
Seem's Team Parker are taking the Haumono fight, Haumono isn't any better than Bowie Tupou pretty much the same league. What a joke fight especially seeing Joe has a title shot so close against a giant who can fight. I think Team Parker should have targetted Gerald Washington imo, Washington is a big bodybuilder with a similar skillset as AJ just half the talent. He would be a great fight to warm for AJ and if Joe can't beat him he doesn't deserve to fight AJ anyway as he would get embarrased.
Parker is no longer a low reward fight, beat Parker and you could be in line for a title shot and earn mega bucks.

You know, I thought about Gerald Washington as well. But I actually think Washington is a very underrated boxer in the heavyweight division. He doesn't have the raw power of AJ, but I think he fights very differently. He uses the jab at distance a hell of a lot, and I think he's very good at dictating the distance and pace of a fight. In his last fight he totally outclassed Eddie Chambers. But Washington is a good call. In terms of an American I think he would be wise to look at, I actually like Jarrell Miller as an opponent. He's a similar size to Washington, but is much more of a come-forward kind of fighter which I think AJ would be as well.
Well - by the fact he's simply three years older. They've both been pro for a similar period of time - but going pro at 23 year old right after winning a gold medal at the Olympics - as opposed to going pro at 20 years old - means AJ is clearly ahead in terms of development. In the same way I would argue Hughie Fury is currently behind Parker in terms of development, despite being pro at a similar period of time.
Washington is a good fighter, but he will never be at the really elite level. He started in the game too late and he is already pretty old. He's quite a lumbering big guy with a bad gas tank.
Chambers doesn't seem to be the same fighter he once was, and Washington faded badly against Mansour and didn't even get the win (I thought Mansour deserved the win TBH).
I don't really consider AJ to be a come forward fighter, but when he hurts someone he does jump on them pretty quickly. If AJ is smart he will just 1-2 Parker all night and look to counter him when given the opportunity.
This is the same plan I think Washington would employ. I don't think Washington has the speed to keep Joe off him, but you never know he is a big boy and his size might counter Joe's speed to a degree.

At my gym we've got a 6'8 middleweight lmao. I have no idea how he weighed 230, he looked like he'd be lucky to make Cruiserweight. But then again Briggs does have gigantic arms and I guess his dimensions dwarfed Lanky McLankbean
