Bledisloe III: Australia v New Zealand, 20/10/2012

reality check NZ fans, they are mere mortals

The reality is that the Wallabies played very well; they probably could not have played better (except for a few mistake near the end).

New Zealand on the other hand, were bloody awful. Not in the right head space at all, giving away dumb penalties and making really dumb decisions

Must of been watching a different game to me Australia were clearly awfull and we were worse than that!

Another interesting stat, which I don't know the exact figure of. It's been years since NZ didn't score a try in a match.

I thought that both teams were poor.

So we concede 13 penalties, Australia 16 and we get a yellow for deliberate and repeated infringements!!?? Those repeated infringements are a joke. Why is giving away three penalties in three minutes and getting a yellow and then giving away no penalty for sevens minutes worse then giving away three penalties in 10 minutes? I don't understand it. Does the warning that the next penalty would be a yellow card reset when Woodcock goes to the bin? Common sense tells you that the next five All Black infringers should have gone to the sin bin, as Joubert said the next infringer should get a yellow card. When we got the warning does that mean we can't give away another penalty for how long? The next 5 minutes, 10 minutes or does the warning last for the whole game? The offenses were unrelated, innocuous and just happened to be within a reasonably close time period (not that close, mind). The actual yellow card was given on barely a penalty as well (although looking back, I can say that the penalty was the right call). We didn't even end the game with a high penalty count. I think overall Joubert (the best referee in the world in my mind) was pretty poor. I wouldn't go as far to say he cost us the game as we had our chances but I wasn't impressed with his performance.

I was a lot less impressed with Aaron Smith tonight though. His pass is brilliant but his decision making is terrible. Piri Weepu? No better. I can't wait to get Perenara and TKB in there as it will mean we have some actual competition for spots. As poor as Smith was, I wanted him on there as I didn't think Weepu could do any better.

No, the warning doesnt last the whole game. Ignorance tells you that, not common sense. Joubert had a good game, leave it at that.

Good test match. Happy seeing the Wobs coming along nicely before spring tests.

Well how long does it last then, educate me? Why was an Australian not yellow carded at the end for 3 penalties in 30 seconds? Why no warning even? I don't see how that is good refereeing. If you think it is good then please point out why. I don't see much evidence for Joubert having a good game but it is a highly subjective thing.

The test had a good finish but the high error rate and disappointment in the result took away my enjoyment from it.

I thought a lot of our players played poorly.

Aaron Smith, some of his passes were not as accurate as we're use to, which puts pressure on the receiver from defenders. His decision making is not the best, we saw this in his debut against ireland, and again tonight. There was one moment where he kicked it over the top and no one was even chasing, no one even had a clue what he was doing.

Charlie,Woodcock, O.Franks gave away some silly penalties, and some of our lineouts were atrocious.

Messam imo didnt play that well. Im still not sold that he should be our 6 to replace Kaino (how i miss him)

Too many handling errors from us as well. Jane, Nonu, Read, Smith etc all coughed the ball up. We cannot be making that many handling errors, imagine coming up against a team that will make you pay for those handling errors.

Why was an Australian not yellow carded at the end for 3 penalties in 30 seconds?

Because NZ wanted to take quick taps. Slowing the game down to give cards is to the disadvantage of Sir Richie and friends. If that was a general period of play, AS SOON as time was off he would have handed out yellows.

Overall. If you give a warning for a particular type of offence, the ref will give a yellow next time you offend in a pressure situation. After that pressure situation is over, and you don't re-offend for a good period of time, then yes, the warning expires.

First time since 2004 against Australia in Sidney. Wallabies won 23-18, New Zealand scored only through penalties (4 Carter, 1 each for Spencer and Mehrtens).

First off, well done to Australia. Wasn't a win, but it may as well have been loss to most All Black fans.

My thoughts. Well - For New Zealand it really seems like the result of a bunch of errors we've been making all season. Very frustrating. Instead of counter attacking when things are on - Dagg always kicks. Instead of holding the occasional passes, we'd try and offload when things weren't on. Instead of passing to the outside man, they'd cut in field or take contact needlessly (Ben Smith was guilty of this twice). Balls would drop on the ground and we'd stand and watch. Messam would run sideways instead of straightening. Grubber kicks when it should go through the hands. Aaron Smith's average box kicking. Piri Weepu being involved past the haka. Constant pick and goes near the line despite never looking like ever getting close. All these problems aren't new - they've been happening all season - it's just everyone else has been too sh*t to stop us from winning.

We're really missing Kaino and Thorn. The refereeing of the breakdown I thought was very poor (and I'm a Joubert fan). The number of times all Aussie players were off their feet, lying over the ball etc and yet nothing would be done. It resulted in some very negative play. At least with Thorn and Kaino - we'd move some bodies. There is no All Black who is showing any of the grunt we need. Also if Thorn was on the field, Higgenbotham would be eating yogurt for the rest of his life.

Actually thought that was a NZ phenomena....particularly Mealamu

most frustrating and "Ugliest game" ive ever seen. Wallabies played well *at times and All Blacks played (lets face it) poorly, however they showed grit and character to have a chance at the claiming the win. refereeing = no comment. Still, although the winning streak has ended...the All Blacks still can get record for most test matches withOUT a loss.

*not going to watch this game on replay thats for sure.
