Bakkies Botha Retires

I don't think it'll be Hartley, he's not really done anything (minus swear at a ref) in years (tugging someone's shirt is not at the same level as headbutting someone). He was definitely well on his way there though, with his gouging and biting.
Don't think Lawes is a cheapshot guy either - he puts in a few late hits but nothing major, just the way he plays: chasing down halfbacks.

If you're looking for an English guy then it's got to be Clarke - he purposefully broke the arm of a player trapped under a ruck. Doesn't come much worse.

But Hartley is a repeated offender. How many weeks has he been suspended now? Around 52 I think... It's a whole year of rugby he has missed due to his indiscretions. It's either him or Clarke...

Stamping on a player's (Vermeulen) knee? Much more career threatening than a silly afterthought of a butt to the back of the head on a guy- let's be honest- who's face is asking for a slap and who had been tugging Botha back during play right before 'the incident'.

yeah, but we all know Hartley is actually a new Zealander :)

Yup. I don't condone the eye-gouge. not by him or Schalla. But I have never been in the situation they have been, so I won't judge them on that.

Bakkies used to hassle the smaller ones, because he knew it would upset them and cause reaction, sometimes he got the required reaction, and sometimes not.

With this said though, I'm still wondering how this has anything to do with his faith????

lol I see there's actually a debate, as in it's not completely obvious and clear as day Botha was a dirty player. What an interesting discussion. Ookay, time fo vids: here's just an example most French fans will remember, from the 2009 test match in Marseille:

It's hilarious btw because they called the penalty on Hari when he was pushed by Botha and in turn knocks some Saffer down under the momentum.

Anyways, please resume the technical conversation about what Botha did or didn't do ! ;)

Bakkies is a malicious player, no doubt about it, South African fans will defend him because for them its all about brute force aka "stampkar"... the harder a player "stamps" the better...

so who/why the fck are we trying to convince here?

Lol!!

So, you completely missed the part where Harry-ordinary and another French player was tugging at Bakkies. Of course he's going to shove him away, I would too! This is a bad example as the Assistant Referee made a bad call as he couldn't see Bakkies shoving back.

So how does this affect his faith???

incredible reply. Happy I made that post so I could extract this response out of you. Please do resume replying to others about how angelic Bakkies Botha really is.

Why thank you! He's no angel, and nobody has said he was. And try to stop with these religious remarks. Just because you are of another faith or not, doesn't make these types of jabs at another faith okay.

I love the over-statements: "well 'ee needs moh than a bladdy nose".

- DECAPITAAAATE HIIMMM !!!!!!
- uhmmm...no we're uh...we're not actually going to behead a guy who...
- OFFF WITH HIS HEAAAAAD !!!!!

Anyways that's why I've always said: plant mines around the field and signs around saying "enter at your own risk".

just a note on the religion...

the 10 commandments... lets say i obey all of them 1 - 10... perfectly 100% but i don't believe in god... while the next guy kills, commits adultery blah blah blah but he/she believes in god... they are deemed a better person by society then me :) even though i have better odds obeying 10/10 :p while this person has 4/10 etc...

now back to bakkies... taking what i just said into account... bakkies is now trying to prove that he is actually not a bad guy by pointing to the bible etc etc so... practice what you preach, you cant be a monster on the field and then keep ur ass holy in church on Sunday like Big E just said... Bakkies ca bull**** y'all, not me... that goes for Dean Greyling aswell...

Icemn, don't lets start with the Cape AB fans when starting up a their fans are this vs the other's fans are that... we'll be making lists all day.

say what? just because i'm an AB fan and the South African Players tend to have a more malicious "trend" toward the game and i happen to point this out, does not mean i'm starting a AB vs everyone else thread...

I didn't start this bakkies thread... merely adding my 5c... i have an issue with bakkies, dean greyling and schalk burger, jannie... and recently bismark aswell... with regards to malicious play... maybe they are just passionate and i'm an idiot... ;)

since you made this a AB thing, let me ask you this... Jerry Collins, was a monster like bakkies, but... was he a malicious player?

A player who never seemed to learn the difference between being tough, and being a bully.

Got to agree with Ewis, if youre a devout Christian you should live and play by those principles. Bakkies most definately didn't.

This doesnt mean playing like a pussy, play hard but fair. Smash those clearouts, defend yourself and your mates and never take a backwards step. But to aim to hurt someone outside what is allowed? Yelling 'Christian' will not get you out of that. A true and good follower would not be mallicious in any form of life.

I say this as a roman catholic before anyone cries about my opinion.

You're words while showing Piet van Zyl's idiotic act;
hell... even the fans are malicious...
.

You said fans with an 's' thereby implying all unless I am mistaken. I took offense. I did not make it an 'AB thing'. I refered specifically to SA based AB fans of which you are one and who as a group have a terrible reputation for good reason. I've personally witnessed them spitting on JdV as he got off the bus at his home ground, start fights, curse like you won't believe at home supporters, intimidate and while I was not at PE even going as far as hitting a woman. So I was merely saying you should be the last person to bring up the behaviour of one supporter of another team let alone try to paint every supporter with the brush that drunk lout. I'm not trying to say you yourself do any of these things, in fact I remember you condemning it and I know it's all too easy for a small group of bad apples to spoil it for the rest but please give others the same consideration and just stop with the generalizaions?

As for Collins, I am a big fan of Collins. Hard as nails and a legend of the game for all the right reasons. But why cherrie pick? I am not defending Bakkies and agree he went off the ball overly much. This is not in response to your posts, Icemn but I just wanted to addd he was a brilliant lock though, I have to give him that. As for the discussion regarding his faith, no matter what I might feel/think I just flat out refuse to discuss another man's faith or 'stance with God' on a platform like this. If I ever met Bakkies face to face I might try to have a discussion with him but he is not here and what do we really know. T

Try Kevin Mealamu!

Right, so you were wrong on Andrew Hore. But I guess if you keep naming All Blacks you're bound to find one that's Christian .

Keven Mealamu is a Christian yes. He's also not a dirty player, considering he has more first class games than any other New Zealander and has only ever been cited once in nearly 15 years and 350 first class games (waits for 2005 to come up...). He again got a lighter punishment for a an incident against England, based on his good record, not his religion. I heard Dane Coles has a few friends who are vaguely Lutheran - maybe try him next?

I'm not sure why people are hyping on about religion here, or New Zealand fans or South African fans etc...the topic is Bakkies Botha retiring.
