Looking at last weekend match, it rather obvious the referees are given too much authority. The only solution to this is for yellow card for foul play. The decision has to be consensus (ref, 2 assistant ref and TM0 and maybe including the reserve referee).

Rugby Union matches have the luxury of the video playback to decide on any decision and yet Romain Poite do not even wants have a second look.

Something SA has had in our inter-varsity matches is that captains can have a call a ref made reviewed when play stops. If the ref's ruling gets overturned then the captains reatains the right to refer otherwise he loses it; 1 in each half. Yes, you get two or three times in a match where there has been 3 up to 5 minute breaks but the audience also got to see the replays and this is important.. the right calls got upheld and wrong ones usually get overturned which makes for more enjoyable viewing for all even without minor hold-ups.

How many of us were referees in the top level? How many of us screwed up work we are doing for a living? There always were and always mistakes will be made in the game.

Don't fix that ain't broken. Current system is ok and there always will be debatable situation: was it yellow or not, was it red or was yeallow enough. Even consensus could not work.

This is something way offtopic but I was wondering... Why there are NH Referees in a SH tournament??
