This is interesting, because Alex Jones is the perfect example of an anti-racist, civic nationalist right winger, but he's a bit toxic because of his conspiracy theories. A conspiracy theorist might say that this coordinated Silicon Valley hit was designed to pick off the most toxic of the prominent civic nationalist right wingers in order to establish a precedent. It's a warning to guys with massive audiences along the lines of Jordan Peterson or Joe Rogan to not venture too far outside approved territory.Infowars been banned on Youtube, apple, Spotify, Facebook etc etc
Two questions:
Should social media be subject to "Bill of Rights" style government regulation because these sites seem to function in the market like public monopolies, in a way that our previous forms of communication have not? In the US a company can tell someone not to participate in certain speech on their property in a town, but they lose that right if they own the whole town. Are these tech companies more equivalent to a company town than a newspaper or television station in how they should be treated by the law?
Should US based tech companies be banned from operating in places like China? These companies are using Chinese censorship laws as an excuse to develop the technology that can then be turned on the US. We would never have allowed important US companies to operate in the Soviet Union during the Cold War.
