Cock up or intentionally letting him escape (whoever 'him' is)

The terrorist casually left him ID in the vehicle and it took German police 20 hours to discover it in the footwell (from reports I've read). Seems like the German police need to have annual eye tests for their officers, or it was an inside job.

inside job? the German Police intentionally recruited someone to drive a truck into a crowd of people then make the a farce of the investigation making them the laughing stock of Western law enforcement? So what were they hoping to achieve from this inside job?

With a government that has an open door immigration policy....

Yes they are obviously trying to prove that not only are their security forces crap but their immigration policy is also dangerous....not sure Mrs Merkel saw the memo on this one.

Isn't it apt that Merkel was at an immigrant function as the attack happened.

Inside job was probably the wrong term to use, but a false flag by a western power (probably the USA).

The killing of a Russian diplomat was clearly an attempt to destabilise the peace process in Syria (between Turkey, Iran and Russia). I am of the belief that it was orchasted by anti-Assad countries in an attempt to demonstrate and highlight the actions Russia and Syria have taken.

Fill the minds of people who watch mainstream media that the killing in Turkey was because of Russia are awful due to their actions in Syria, then have an attack on the public in a European country to also fill the minds of people that more intervention in needed in Syria by Western powers to rid the world of Islamic extremists (but actually continue to target Assad).

I dunno if the ID thing is that condemning though. The guy probably thought this would be a suicide mission and wanted his face in the news as some sort of martyr. God I hope it's just incompetence though.

If he thought it was a suicide mission why not fill his truck with bombs or carry weapons to have a shootout with the security forces. The individual who drove the lorry in France was shot by the security forces, whereas this one fled the scene and was, apparently, at a local hospital (from reports I've read). All this doesn't sound like the actions of a man who wanted to be a martyr to his religion and kill himself

Gav you prob need to lay off watching things like Homeland etc. ;)

I can't see why they would use a Tunisian passport if that was the aim though.

Also we don't know when they found the passport either just when it was told to media.

The business in Turkey was a Sunni Muslim killing a Russian who government is helping a Shia leader Assad repress a Sunni population in Syria. These things do happen and if by peace process you mean the crushing of all opposition by Russian backed forces then there doesn't seem to be much peace in that process.

Weird how is always a Shia minority ruling a Sunni Majority like in Syria or in the case of Saddam Hussains Iraq, a Sunni minority ruling a Shia majority.

Perhaps because he couldn't get any explosives etc hence the reason he needed to hijack a truck......

Don't get me wrong I am sure that people are repressed in Syria, but Assad is the same as Sadam and Gaddafi - they may rule their countries with an iron fist but they do stop radical religious groups gaining a foothold.

You talk of a peace process? Perhaps the ceasefire which was stopped when the USA killed 100(?) Syrian troops? The ceasefire which was meant to allow civilians to leave East Aleppo through corridors but was stopped when rebels began shelling the routes?

These 'moderate' rebels who have links to terrorist organisations and shell schools and hospitals in the rest of Aleppo. When do we ever hear about that in the mainstream media? All we hear about is apparent genocide by Syrian troops, backed by Russia, and poor young girls who are stuck in a warzone yet their Twitter account is registered in the UK, people who video themselves giving a final video but them appear chatting to rebels with suicide belts.

There is no reason why Russia or Syria would want the fighting to continue. It does not benefit any of them. The only nations the fighting benefits is anti-Assad countries such as the USA.

And since the removal of Saddam there has been a significant spike in religious intolerance and extremists.

A gun / knife / etc can easily be obtained so it seems like extremely poor planning on the part of IS seeing as they have taken responsibility for it.

Never seen that but I have heard good things about Homeland. Love a conspiracy theory, I do. My main new network is RT which is probably why I think such things.

No I didn't, there doesn't seem to have been one since the war started I just don't agree with your idea of a peace process and please don't be under the illusion that I have any particular "side" in this, I have said on here before that having Assad back in power is probably the only solution for Syria, I have witnessed Civil conflict before know the tricks sides use to get the UN etc to look favourably on them but Assad stepped over a line when he started using chemical weapons.

As for IS and its planning well yes it is pretty poor and they are pretty hopeless as a terrorist organisation, they only seem to have success when they come up against an incompetent police force like the one in Germany and before in France. When you think that PIRA managed many bombing campaign's despite being infiltrated by MI5, not having anyone stupid enough to blow themselves up, having a super grass at very senior level and most of its membership in a H block then you have to wonder who is in the planning department of ISIS foreign wars department and why he hasn't been sacked yet.

The Berlin suspect has been shot and killed in Milan. Reports suggest he was stopped by police during a normal vehicle check and when asked for his ID he shot at the officers.

Would have been better to get him alive and make him squawk.
Why? Attacks like this are almost certainly lone wolves who have loose ties if any to any real groups. Only coordinated attacks involving multiple incidents can intelligence of any significant not be captured.

The Queen didn't attend the Christmas service yesterday.

I've heard it takes them longer to shape shift back from their reptilian form when they get older.

The more you can learn the better equipped you will be to counter future issues.
By all means kill them when you're finished but find out as much as possible at every turn.

Terrorists are made, not born. (Ron Paul amongst others...)
If you want to stop terrorism, then stop oppressing people for their mineral resources and or geo-political position.
Stop the indiscriminate drone attacks, and assassinations.
It's the military and economic squeeze that makes the crazies.
People wonder why Palestine creates so many anti Israeli Jihadists.
Examine the conditions that the Palestinians exist under, then examine the conduct of Israel toward Palestine and it becomes clear very quickly why Palestine is so full of hatred from generation to generation.
Wherever you have oppression you will also have a hotbed of fertile environment for the development of insurrection, terrorists/rebels/freedom fighters.

We know all that already though seriously in lone wolf attacks. What you usually find is a mentally ill person who has been corrupted by hateful ideologies from Lee Rigby to Jo Cox the same old story plays out.

As to killing him after....uh no I'm not a big fan of killing him before (although it sounds like the police had little choice in this case). All I'm saying is we would of probably learnt very little in anything for his capture.

A very simplistic view of terrorism and the causes of it.
