If it does then surely it will suffer the same fate as Speckled Jim.
You're still haunted by that?
It's been over a century man!

What language do you learn there?
Attempting to learn French (wife's natural tongue) and a bit of Spanish (where her dad lives now).
Getting there very, VERY slowly - I just have no ear for languages.

10 people out 550K isn't anywhere close to a statistically viable group in terms of performance against the group and you claim to be smart enough to know that.
...
I'm quite disappointed in general at forum on this one on most other subjects we'd be pushing against that kind of confirmation bias but instead claims with zero backing got tons of likes.
When N=10, you're not going to reach statistical significance on... anything much.
Beyond that, Hitchen's law needs to be inserted into the discussion.

China just announced plans to 2049. America announces plans by the hour on truth social and twitter.

Easy to see where this is going.

Ah I see. Yes, Duolingo is only an additional tool and can't replace a good real practice.
But you're lucky your wife is a French native speaker: you can practice it a lot with her! My partner has the same native language as me,so I don't have a "luxury" of practicing any foreign language at home.
I was learning most of foreign languages I speak now, without a real practice at the beginning..and that's very complicated, I'll tell you.Learnt only Polish just practicing "on streets" and with colleagues: incredibly easy to learn it like that.

I wish.
She's happy enough to speak French with me - but NOT to slow it down enough that I can have the faintest idea what she's saying. If I try to speak French for more than 1 sentence, she rolls her eyes and tells me to stop murdering her language, and speak English :(

I use Duo, I use Busuu (I find it a good combination to cover each other's weaknesses), and I use LeChat to explain mistakes, and concepts where those fail. I try to watch films in French (but with English subs) and sometimes try in English with French subs (which is a horrible fail); and I'm trying to find French singers to add to my playlist. Once I've finished my current book series, I'm going to try reading Harry Potter in French (should be simple enough).
I'm sure that if/when I get good enough, I'll be able to converse with Ali - but it's taken me well over a decade to get to this stage.
