A Political Thread pt. 2

Horrible though it is, I think Starmer has pulled a bit of a diplomatic blinder with the 2nd royal state visit. Definitely tapping all of Trump's feel good buttons.

The fact that he did as a surprised in front of the cameras too. Whoever thought of it was a genuis as its the best way to play Trump.

I'd rather we weren't hosting the guy obviously and giving him the honour. But accept we need convince him that American peacekeepers are nessary although in a rare agreement with Trump I do think a bulk should be European.

I wonder how Charlles will handle it.

I imagine it'll be a multi stop tour to Buckingham palace, Windsor and Balmoral. Trump's golf course near Aberdeen isn't far from Balmoral and so it's an easy win given his Scottish mother etc. Charles is a seasoned pro when it comes to hosting world leaders.

He loves the pomp and ceremony and especially with him being centre of attention. There's no doubt that he seems to have a soft spot for the UK having watched the whole thing. Sir Keir Charmer. Who knew. He'll be buzzing today.

Oh i meant Charles isn't exactly tactful or likes the subtle dig. See Greek tie.

I dont think our food standards will drop. I don't think that is really important to trade deal between the two countries. It'll be about tech and arms.
Well, we'll see. Farmers would be up in arms (even more so than they already are) if it were to and these so called FTAs takes several years to negotiate. Trump could well be out of office by then.

People on social media saying how weak we look

Reality is we don't need to be in a position to be strong nor are we anyway.

Trump isn't gunning for us like Canada and the EU, Labour isn't a left party either so not like they have the ethical standings.

I don't rate Labour but on an international front I think world governments outside of Russia are finding us easier to deal with. We have had promising talks with pretty much every major country since Labour have been voted in

Most of the damage was done by Boris Johnson and his administration. Relations with the EU were at rock bottom when he left office and started to improve when Sunak took office (Truss is a no mark and doesn't count) Sunak's bromance with Macron and noises coming out of Brussels basically saying he was easier to deal with and more professional than Johnson. Our standing under Starmer has gone up a few levels no doubt about it.

Biden was frosty towards the UK and pally with the EU. What I find interesting is how much an American President's family heritage seems to count. Biden was very pro Irish and frosty towards the UK. Trump clearly has a soft spot for the UK due to his family links and golf courses.

We never really new what Biden Starmer would be like. Starmer came in as Biden was a empty suit.

Sunak was also no diplomat just leagues ahead of Johnson.

I wouldn't read too much into nationalities. Trump likes his ego stroked and fawns for the pomp and ceremony. Biden couldn't give a **** about that ****.

Its merely a case of putting someone competent in charge.

I wonder who had to talk Charlie into it. "Charlie boy you're taking one for the team".

Worked a treat, hearing Trump when he got the letter he was like a dog with two d!cks.

It did work a treat. The key is to treat him like the spoilt manchild that he is.

Kinda the opposite of rewarding a dog with a treat for doing a trick. Give him the treat up front and you're immediately in his good books.
