Yep, that really sells it. Is she that thick that she doesn't realise it's not because people aren't trained but that people don't want to do these jobs. Having said that, the way the government is going I'm sure they'll pass a law to force unemployed people to do these jobs. Maybe those on benefits too if they earn less than 10k.

I'd be quite receptive to suggestions of getting those that have a long track record of being on jobseekers to have to do the minimum wage equivalent in hours in community work. The work would obviously have to be something of a one-off nature or for charities so they aren't used as substitutes for paid employees; clearing litter off beaches, helping at food banks, or clothes banks; that kind of stuff.

The idea isn't really to make them "earn" their benefits, its more to get them out of the house/flat, do something useful and maybe give them contacts/confidence/appetite that may result in a paid job down the line.

Yep, that's the problem with this country in a nutshell, our young women have too much education, access to too many facts, and too much leeway to use their brains...

They just need to get back to knowing their place, (and only their place); toiling on a fruit farm for less than minimum wage and probably illegal work conditions (but don't worry, they'll be legal and then some soon); and popping out babies in the off-season.

Just reconfirms that our politics is rotten and broken. Political parties should be made to comply with the same anti money laundering/corruption/conflict of interest rules as banks and other businesses.

Our politics and American politics are completely broken. I know someone mentioned about how disappointing Erdogan beating the pro-democracy candidate us, but reality is that the west is not a great advertisement for democracy at the moment. I can understand some people not voting for the chaos that it brings, though personally the benefits outweigh the cons.

But doesn’t it show democracy is something that has to be worked at and fought for. People should stop looking for the easy answers that dictators and populists say they can bring.

I agree. As I said I don't agree, but I can see why people might get to that opinion.

I think a Labour Lib Dem coalition government is probably a step in the right direction. If political parties can demonstrate a willingness to compromise and find some kind of middle ground then perhaps people might start to do the same. It just feels like we live in a polarised society full of stubborn angry people who just won't listen to the other side and try to reach a compromise. This unhealthy tone comes from politicians within 'broad church' parties IMO. Personally I'd like to see a wider spectrum of political parties with coalition Governments becoming the norm.

True but on the plus side at least it was fairly stable and didn't collapse mid term. Maybe the Tories just did a more effective job of campaigning to win an outright majority. I don't think we'll see back to back terms for the same coalition government but I'd like to see them feature more often compared to what we have at present i.e. a baton change between two parties every 12 years.

I can't fathom how Brexit voters can look at the state we are in and still hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil about Brexit. I've asked many times and never got an answer, just what will it take for a Brexit support to admit it was a failure?

I think a few people do genuinely think that it doesn't impact them. Your average person in Youngs fish factory Grimsby probably thinks lifes rubbish in or out the EU. Having helped in a friends pub in Grimsby it can seem a town where hope goes to die. It's probably hard to gauge things are a failure when your scraping by in some dead end job with no hope. Freedom of movement etc probably means very little. It's not so much people admitting Brexit is a failure as more some people couldn't give a toss about being in the EU now any way.

Anyone who thinks the country is heading in the right direction or somehow thinks that Brexit and over a decade of Tory rule have absolutely nothing to do with anything that is going wrong quite simply needs their head examined at this stage. I keep asking by what metric anything is better or hell, even simply not worse than it was just over a decade ago. There is nothing. By pretty much every measure, this country has got worse.

The other way to look at it is if that 1 in 5 was reflected in another referendum and assuming the other remain vote stayed the same then they would have 58% which would be more than enough to reverse the vote.

Sadly you have to account for the 42% section of the leave who are either still too ignorant or won’t be told that they were wrong.
